One thing that is certain is, minus the sheep, the deniers have a financial interest in continuing the status quo.
Jonathan tells me that nothing is served by ridiculing the ridiculous. Well maybe, but the small possibility that the children of, say, the flat earthers among others, will keep their minds open rather than swallow their parents dogmatic indoctrination, thereby lessening the influence of the next generations learned stupidity, is worth it. Especially since its all that's left, AND considering that when they aren't challenged they proclaim their stupidity so loudly; as well as the fact that they dismiss the effects their stupidity has on others.

-44 posts! Well done. I don't think even our friend Salgoud Nairb, master of negative time and space, was able to achieve that.

We can discuss hypothetical environments and use evidence of the past to check those hypotheses for relevance. The hypothetical model of our world as flat is fine for discussions about a city and its neighborhood and scales up nicely to a few hundred miles. Hyperbolic discounting takes care of concerns about the Earth's curvature on that small scale. The further away it is - the less it matters. Relevance as weighed by proximity in space (or time).

Imagine a moral blockchain process where "it's all according to plan and it will be better later" serves to keep the status quo. Perform your moral blockchain computation (with statements, rituals...) and you get your daily bitcoin or food or if you do extra good maybe some special treat. How's the weather there? In the mean time I have little confidence in highly partisan and economically motivated pleas for attention, fear, panic spending or further misuse of resources.

Of course, if the course of GW hasn't changed in 100 years, the people of that day will vilify the scientists of today for not warning their ancestors strongly enough so action WOULD be taken. I'm reminded of the man at Yellowstone National Park who fed a bear, was mauled by the bear and sued Yellowstone for not warning him firmly enough about the dangers of feeding bears. (Yes, there are signs all over the place telling you NOT to feed the bears, but apparently that wasn't enough for him)

I think we should impose a thirty percent tariff on imported solar panels.
That'll show 'em what a cutting edge nation we really are.

Why does everyone jump to sarcasm when I am asking for simple solutions? What is the problem with not arguing and having a rational discussion about the solutions proposed and then we debate THOSE instead of just the same stupid crap?

The solution(s) is not going to be simple, it's a complex problem. The direction, however, is simple: economic incentives for renewables, disincentives for fossil fuels. NYC T was indicating the present movement regarding tariffs is in the exact wrong direction.

See the problem is not if there is warming, it is what people want to do about it. Like health care. There is a problem so we need government control of 1/6 of the economy.

What we need is to get the money, and the lobbyists out of politics.
Until then the truth is nothing really matters; so sarcasm in the face of calls for ideas is as good as anything else. Meanwhile the Koch brothers will be spending $400,000,000 during 2018. Clean coal anyone? How about a few more earthquakes in Oklahoma? Wait! I've got it! Let's build some more pipelines near what clean water reserves are left; because they NEVER leak.
