Here's a make-believe post that will allow you to rip into the equally fictitious author without hurting anyone's feelings:
Hi Guys! Wazzup? Tutu the Clown here. Thinking about adding some mental magic to my walk-around set. Do you think the kids would understand the MOAB thingy? Am thinking about making balloon animals that resemble the words the kids think of. And do you think that the funny bra trick or "Houdini Outstripped" could be passed off as an example of psychokinesthetics, or whatever ya call it? Please PM me and tell me how to do some cool mental tricks that you think I could use. Please don't refer me to any books that I can't afford, unless you are able to email me a copy. My first regular mentalism show is next Tuesday. What tricks should I do and how much should I charge? Love and kisses, Tutu |

Fortunately, mentalism is the easiest part of magic ( why anyone bothers learning passes, etc. is beyond me ). So, having an act by Tuesday is fairly easy. An entire act can be built around the dime and penny, so I'd start there. The kids will go crazy searching for the missing dime ( make it like an easter egg hunt ). That gives the performer time to slip outside for a smoke or to check their e-mail. Add the mental dye-tube and the mental sponge balls and you have a solid 45 minutes! Pricing is just as easy. Whatever mom charges to live in the basement, double it and you have your fee! Good luck, TuTu! |

Tutu responds:
Thanx for the practical advice Zombie! I'm thinking I need to get on TV again. I was on COPS a few years ago, but I didn't get to do any tricks. Any tips? If I hide the dime in my shorts do you think that will help? Love, Tutu PS- Now that I've been doing this stuff for a few months, I am putting out an eBook on Clown Mentalism. I need guys to contribute the effects. I'll give all contributors a free copy! |

Dear Master Mindreader.
I have spent 30 years developing sleight of hand skills and can basically do anything with a deck of cards that I want. I'm thinking of adding some mental effects to my act. I have heard about something called 13 Steps but I am frightened about these things called billets and don't think I possess the skill to switch one or secretly tear out the center. I know I shouldn't care about my lack of technical skill as its all about presentation anyway. That settles it. I am making my reservation for Mindvention. I have some stuff that Anemmman actually didn't think of that is based on moves that were invented (wait for it) sometime later than 1930. Bob - I have read all your work and I am a big fan but come on - we are not all clowns. I look forward to continuing this over a beverage at the Palace

I have a strong feeling after Tuesday it will be us coming to you with performing questions! Dr. Bob, thank you for letting us help this conjuror get his start on what should be a spectacular career! |

J100taylor-
Of course you're not all clowns! Tutu is the only clown here. (People tend to forget that I started out as a magician, doing card and billiard ball manipulations.) Will definitely have a drink with you at MindVention. |

Another message from Tutu:
Hiya Guys! I think one of the problems I'm having with doing mentalism is that people don't take what I'm doing seriously. So I'm thinking of changing my name from Tutu the Clown to Mento the Clown. You think that will help? Love, Tutumento (in transition) |

Might I suggest,Tutu, that "Mentalo the Clown" might be a better fit?

Tutu - if you need an act by Tuesday, loads of new mentalism effects might be too tough. Try cold reading. Heaps easier.
