I just cannot seem to master the muscle pass...for as long as I have been performing I cannot even get close to performing this pass. Any advice or excerises you guys can offer would be appreciated.

There have been some good threads on this, try a search. It seems to be a mystery move, some people get it, but can't explain how they did (I'm one of those). Some people try and try and never get it. There is a good explanation at http://www.coinvanish.com

I would have to agree on the variety of people who get the move or not. Also redstreak makes a good call with the coinvanish site. There's an excellent explanation on there, also check the other threads, there is alot of good advice in them too.

Play with larger diameter coins, and possibly heavy ones too.

You'll get frustrated, but as soon as you can launch a heavier coin, when you graduate to a lighter one they will soar.

Just keep at it

Use plastic coins from a casino or a discotheque or something. They're light and big.... This helped me a lot.

Very important to try out all positions in the hand, idea is to get the coin to pop off the portion of flesh at the base of the thumb. So experiment with the distance with respect to that flesh, and once you can get the coin to flip due to the pop... then just carry on until it can pop higher.

Be prepared for bruises on your palm the first time you play around with it.

Oh, the above explaination, is kinda my personal experience, think there may be others who differ.

I Could not belive the muscle pass actually was possible in real life until I met this magician called Elliot Kim Jørpeland, he shot that coin up so hard it made a smacking sound when it hit his other hand.
There is a link beneath, in the "HotSpot" section he has got one of the best explenations l have seen on the muscle pass..
Check it out!

Go with the poker chip idea, very light and rough edges.. I was very frustrated for a month or so only achieving 1/2 an inch, when I switched to a poker chip by chance it shot a good 12" !! woo hoo, by using the poker chip it trains the muscles in your hand to know what movements are necessary to launch the coin, then when you switch back to a regular coin (half dollar is best for me. Silver Kennedy.. Something about the silver gives me a better grip for popping) you will be able to make the muscles grow in the right areas rather than in 100 different wrong ones.. good luck, its a killer move that will definately get one of those... "wait, do that again" responses.

Enjoy the journey and the holiday season.

The walk is worth the destination.

When you get it pass it on to a "worthy" student.

With practice you should be able to get it to pop alot higher. It's just a matter conditioning the muscles in your hand to get stronger for the move. I believe that once you get the move down it can be very rewarding to one's magic. Anyway keep at it and you should do fine.

That's a GOOD sign, that means that you've got the grip right. With a lot of practice you should get it high.

I've been trying this (on and off) for 5 years. Just now starting to get close to performing level.

Using the light-weight Marti Gras Coins (light alum. with milled edges) worked very well for me when I was first getting started... could pop that sucker up over 2 feet!

I can now do it a foot high 9 out of 10 times w/ a half dollar.

My advice is keep working on it, never quit. Plan on doing it for your 80th birthday and you'll probably be ready long before that... patience and persistance my friend.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

The real secret behind mp is : practice practice and practice. I can do muscle pass well. I practice every day every time I can( at phone on the bus goin to university and astonishing people as well Smile)

Anyway you can find good explanation on muscle pass in micheael Ammar classic renditions vol 1 and some pretty ideas to use it in cultural xchange by shoot ogawa and apollo robbins.

for practicing I suggest you to start with a dollar coin the use halves. you can also glue together 2 o 3 coins and train your hand muscle!!! as usual sorry for my english!

Wow,
Now I feel a little better.
I only been practicing this move for about a week and so far I can only make the coin....well no lets be truthful I can't even make the muscle begin to twitch.

I will do this if it takes the rest of my life and the way I'm feeling right now I better hurry.
Just got back from the doctor and have either a bad gallbladder attack or a kidney stone.
Get to go in for tests next week.

Good luck to all who are practicing this move, keep us all posted on your progress.
Thanks
