So I don't have to break my skin to insert the gimmick then?

One of my dolls has arrived, What's with the DVD? I can not select the different chapters with my remote.

Spent a good 2 hours yesterday trying to get the doll to perform, ended up watching DVD on my computer. My hands look like I attacked it with sandpaper and is painful. Still sore 12 hours later and I could not get it to rise more than a cm or two. Tried all over. I found a much easier way to perform this that don't use the traditional methods as shown here, I can get the doll now to stand right up and no pain, requires an additional prop that I had nearby.

Don't get me wrong, this looks excellent, but for me, it's unacceptable doing what you have to do to your bare skin to make it work.

Wear a pair of tight fitting white cloth gloves. Its the only way I could get this to work. I tried without gloves. My hands are to soft and sensitive for this.

Hey That's Cool, hope things are well with you. I have been using this method for 20+ years with Okito dolls, skeleton hands, pens and now the Haunted Doll. For me it has been a reliable method that gets great reactions. However I understand the method is not for everyone.

Can you point me in the direction of these other effects which use a similar method. You raised an eyebrow.

Hi Robvs,

The Voodo Doll was more or less the standard version prior to the Haunted Doll.... http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S7440 Still a good version if you are looking for a different look in the doll. The straw limbs when burnt on the ends disguise the gaff nicely. Prior to this Fukai sold an Okito doll which I liked but is no longer available.

Dave Powell sold a version as a small skeleton hand that I have used a lot.... http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S10715
Alas it is unfortunately no longer available, but some dealers may still have stock.

Gen Grant made a Bic Pen version. A little tricker to do than the doll version from a balance perspective but have used it on occasion. Also has the smallest gaff. http://winklersmagicwarehouse.com/store/......l-grant/

A larger version called the Wicker Man used to be available as well. Was great for parlor shows.... http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S7458

Tom Burgoon makes a bottle cap allowing you to perform the effect with a water bottle called Bottom's Up... http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S11619 I like the idea but find it the hardest vesion to do.

Years ago you could purchase pencil versions, discussed here....

The Haunted Doll is a great addition to a long list of effects using this method.

I have been thinking about getting this effect for a good while now, I have one major question though... Why has this Haunted Doll received so much more attention then the virtually identical VooDoo Doll ever has???

Is the Haunted Doll easier to control then the VooDoo doll? Does it balance better? Is there some major quality differences between these gimmicks?

Personally, there is something about the look of the voodoo doll that I like better, maybe it's the freaky mummy looking bandages wrapped around it, but then again, I do like the look of the haunted doll as well, it has more of a blair witch, haunted look to it.

So, is there really a difference between these two, if so, what are they?

Thx

Great question Piz. No question the Haunted Doll is a great looking prop and has been marketed well. Also Rogue has some nice handling tips. However the difference between the Haunted and Voodoo/Okito doll are mainly cosmetic, they all ultimately work the same way. I have owned and used most of the items using this method put out in the past 25 years or more.

Randi Rain has a version of the Okito Voodoo doll called Magic Poppets. Different look altogether. http://www.raincloudmagic.com/page/9/

The concept is easy but like anything takes some work to look magical. Done badly the method can be obvious. I have been doing this for many years but picked up a couple of nuances from Rogue on the HD dvd that has improved the way I do it. Read through the posts and you will get a sense if it is for you or not, the method is not for everyone.

Feel free to PM me if you have a specific question.

As far as being able to do it, or having to learn any difficult sleights? Yes, it is extremely easy to learn. You'll still want to practice and rehearse because how you present this is the most important aspect. But you should have no problems learning how to perform with the Haunted Doll.

All this talk has convinced me to order this. Looks way creepy and cool. I'm curious of what kind of patter people have been using. I'm thinking of a story like, I found this when I was kid while digging in a field, and I've always held on to it because of what it does. Just a general thought that I think I might develop a little more after getting the doll.

I'm a bit late to the party here, but I just put my order in for the HD.

I'm gonna be taking it step further inorder to scare the living cr*p out of people, especially family members.

I am purching a Wiccan book of Spells (im leaning toward one of these... http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1416501584......165_QL70 )... or this pocket sized version, which I can carry with me anywhere, this one goes so perfect with the look of the HD... http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000RUDDQG......165_QL70 ...

I will then tell those I am about to do the Haunted Doll too that the Doll came with the book, and the book teaches that once the reader has become loyal and worthy of such Wiccan powers, the Doll shall rise before him/her. The book explains to wear the Doll around your neck (as a necklace, I personally love this idea of the HD as a necklace) inorder to bless the person in contact with the doll of the wiccan blessings.

My woman is going to FREAK OUT once she sees I bought a Wicca book (and think I got a freaky looking doll with it! Haha), she is Terrified of anything to do with that religion and belief, and this is mainly due to episodes of "The Haunting" we have watched together on the Discovery Channel, where Wicca spells introduced demonic entities within the homes of those not fully understand what they are getting into by trying to enforce spells on others.

Some of you may think I'm taking this a bit far, but hey, I'm going all out with this one, the Haunted Doll will live up to it's name in my hands. Smile
