I've received my doll. I agree, that it does take some time practicing it until it can be done well... at least I had to. I've demonstrated it for a few people and so far the reactions have been great! To add on to the effect, I've put my Pure Smoke device on, so eerie smoke seems to be emitting from the doll (while I have creepy flute music playing in the background).
This is one of the few tricks where I've seen some spectators actually suspect that some real witchcraft might be at play. Pros: Not organic, but doesn't look like some plastic thing you'd buy at some magic shop. There is a great emotional response to the creepiness of the little artifact. Very durable. I can't imagine this breaking under most circumstances. Cons: I disagree that it is completely examinable. I think if you hand it out, you're really going to be putting yourself at risk at someone figuring out your trick. You can perform this only so many times a week until you have to give it a rest. Also, despite the advertisement, it doesn't scream. It will definately be one of my favorites to perform! I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5. |

Cool idea with the pure smoke, mndude!
There is a bit of a risk for sure in handing it out but the audience, I believe, is not trained to suspect this kind of method. If anything, they are thinking strings or magnet so there isn't too much heat on the actual method/gimmick. And it's definitely less noticeable than the other types of voodoo dolls etc (plus, doesn't stand out as much with the certain touches that Rogue added to this version). Every time I have handed it out, they give it a look, put in on their palm, and try to make it rise out of their own hand and can't. They hand it back in disbelief! My wife who knows all my crazy methods and tricks still scratches her head on this one! |

Pure Smoke, why didn't we think of combining both. Awesome Idea. Thank you for your wonderful words but even more thanks for the Cons, in your point of you. It seemed honest and not, the too familiar Nitpicking reviews that products get.
Couple of things, for some question's that people may have - For those who have had the opportunity to visit Rogue's Shop, the creator, He literally does the doll anywhere from 5-10 a day. And is open 7 days a week. (He Does this to every NEW customer that walks through his doors. We wish we could be making this up lol but this happens to be his Favorite effect. Either way, for us Mortals out there, YES I can see how doing this an excessive amount of times may take a toll on your hand. We have got many emails from customer who want to buy, asking if it needs any refills or if they'll have to buy another. To answer those questions without revealing the method. NO, you have the option to do this as much as you want, I believe preference wise some may just choose to not do it All the time - The examinable part is the one we had a huge debate about. I was one of those who voted for the Advertising to say examinable. The reason I did can be either subjective or objective. Watching Rogue hand the doll out for examination, day in and day out made me realize that if the performance and gimmick are executed well, then there should be no fear in the spectator discovering anything. But I feel that as magicians we're so "worried" about being caught once we have been told the secrect, as it is with Thumb tips after I used to sell them. I believe that the superior manufacturing of the gimmick doesn't make it completely invisible but NEARLY invisible, this to me warrants it examinable. I do understand that this can not be held as a FACT. but rather my strong opinion based on seeing it performed 1,000's of times by Rogue. NOTE: Rogue teach's a genius tip on how to make the gimmick even more invisible in the DVD.... HINT: Sharpie/ Permanent Marker/ Lighter - As for the scream......I talk to my doll every night asking for it to scream Thank you all once again for Pushing the Haunted Doll forward Quote:

Is there any risk AT ALL of a spectator hurting themselves, albeit accidentally, if you hand them the doll to examine?
|
|||||||||
Devontemagic New user New York 94 Posts |
My immediate answer is NO. Michael Six Muldoon, who sits across from Rogue in the explanation, grabs the doll and literally jams the doll up and down into his hand without getting hurt. Now for our disclaimer: in the world of lawsuits, we are forced to say that if by 1 in 1,000 chances they happen to know how the trick works, and they do something outrageous with the doll then maybe. you may be pinched. I honestly could not conceive any situation that would go farther than your spectator saying "hey something felt like it pinched me" But honestly speaking NO, we care about the magicians safety just as much as the future spectators safety and if delt with proper care, no one should be getting any where near hurt.

Here's the music I've played while performing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT9FovJxMQg . I'm open to hear other suggestions for creepy background music though.
I couldn't figure out how the trick was done until watching the DVD, but then after watching it but my wife noticed the gimmick after I handed it off to her. I'm thinking it'd might be nice if it came with a duplicate ungimmicked piece to hand off after performing. I can never get the doll to rise more than a 45 degree angle though. In any case, I think this may be the best trick of the year. Til now, I'd say that the ProMystic tricks and UltraCinese are possibly some of the few ones out there that might pass as real magic. This doll with its creepy Voodoo feeling definitely joins that category. When Jamie Grant does his annual "Best of the Year" tricks vote, I'll probably be voting for this one. |

I've found with this type of effect that if you don't do it as a trick, but build a spooky presentation, you greatly reduce the chances of them wanting to examine it. Unknown/spooky things make people a bit reticent to want to hold them.

Ive performed the Okito Voodoo doll zillions of times and never been called out on it. I did however hand it out before the performance. The gimmick was pretty noticeable back then so I used some cotton dolls, lighter and glue for concealment. THe lighter I use as part of my performance with him and will be for Doll Face. I did not notice the lighter mentioned on the DVD but I flew that segment and will need to rewatch it again. I did use sharpie which was great. All in all a great product, one of the best this year up there with Free Energy. PS: I have not seen Sperry but hopefully won't get a gun pulled on me for not ordering two. One is good for now, unless I lose him. Decomposing Without a Lighter For Now

Thanks but it's not necessary, I was just joking when I asked for a discount anyway. Thanks for explaining about the dvd/download cost, makes sense. But as far as a replacement doll goes, I'd pay $30 if I had to if I needed to replace mine, but is there any chance you guys might offer just the doll a little cheaper for those of us who have purchased the dvd w/doll and want a backup or replacement? Same deal was offered with Alan Rorrison's "Smoke" and other effects that need refills or replacements. We obviously don't need another dvd and it would be great to have this option.

In return We will be sending you a private Link either Via Email/ Café of one of Michael Six Muldoon's Creator of 6 by Six and Modern Triumph's UNRELEASED Effect. The Link will be for a Streaming Video Online, We will in fact be selling the streaming Video, in the next couple of months BUT those who waited patiently will receive it for Absolutely FREE of Charge. They Say Nothing is FREE, and your patience was your way of paying us

All this talk has convinced me to order this. Looks way creepy and cool. I'm curious of what kind of patter people have been using. I'm thinking of a story like, I found this when I was kid while digging in a field, and I've always held on to it because of what it does. Just a general thought that I think I might develop a little more after getting the doll.

Haunted Doll has arrived at Saturn Magic today and I'm pleased to say it lives up to the demo, the quality is excellent and I can't see anything being spotted the gimmick is nearly invisible.
This is really nice as it's self contained requiring no set up. Great instruction and very well made doll, overall an excellent package. We have it listed here http://www.saturnmagic.co.uk/new-magic/t......m-6.html
