Hi everyone!
So I just got mine today, and I love it already! I need some opinions though. Did you guys use a sharpie on the doll to help hide the gimmick or no? Personally I think it stands out like a sore thumb if its examined. I showed it to a friend and they found the gimmick in a second. So does coloring it make it less noticeable or what? Thanks |

Ha JB
I had posted this in another page. The sharpie does make it more noticeable. But someone said that black paint work's better. Personaly I think doing nothing to it is the best. Todd |

Like many Magicians, I like "tweaking" stuff, making adjustments, tailoring it to me. But I think System 6's release of Rogue's Haunted Doll is perfect.
And customer support second to none! http://www.system6magic.com/collections/......system-6 |

Yep, that was me that used paint. Personally for me the metal ends just looked weird so I used a dab of flat black paint on the ends, but I also have burned the ends with a lighter to blacken outer appendages so the flat black paint matches to blend in,but of course there is that one appendage I barely singed & unpainted. If I didn't burn it, I would have used some flat drk brown paint.
It's a personal thing to paint, burn or leave as is,......but if you hand it to someone & say "look at this" after you perform it, then you stand a better chance of discovery. I remove it from it's box or now off my necklace & hand it to them briefly (as I readjust my necklace), then take it back & perform it & control showing it to them after depending on how I feel that person may or may not be with it or simply put it back on my necklace so they can still see it but is out of they're touch....... |

Oh yea I see your post now. Anyone else care to give their opinion on the blackening of the gimmick? Also do you guys hand out the doll after you do it? The gimmick seems to noticeable, unless I see it that easy just because I know its there. Do you guys even think its necessary to hand out afterwards? Sorry for all of the noob questions. Im not used of working with props like this, Ive always just done card magic. |

Take the following warning as seriously as you desire:
I am a school teacher in a low-income, at-risk high school with a tremendously large immigrant population. Weekly, I perform a magic trick or two for them, and today's effect was The Haunted Doll. My initial performance was for a former student, one from Haiti, in the hallway before the school day began. I must preface by stating that my approach to magic and mentalism is usually one of cultural awareness. For instance, when I perform a "mind-reading" routine, I conclude with an "informative" explanation for the effect which makes it clear that I'm not claiming psychic or sacrilegious powers. The short of it is, I don't want Mommy and Daddy calling me up and telling me I'm blurring the lines between church and state in a litigious society full of crazy people that can't take things lightly and playfully. So...I performed the trick for a Haitian kid. He flipped out. But it wasn't in a good way. First, he did rapidly swat my hand, almost uncontrollably, and he then shouted "That's some voodoo sh*t. Don't mess with that black magic mister. You playin' with powers you don't know about. I'm Haitian. You messin' with the wrong stuff." I did the "normal" backpedaling and cleaning up that a performer AND teacher must do at this point...apologizing? Not so much. Educating? Not so much. You can't educate a culture change in a five minute interaction. So...as the day went on, I continued showing the effect to a few classes (hahah- maybe I truly am the devil?). The effect was continually met with negative, yet powerful, responses from the Haitian students. Now, I will leave out any and all rhetoric about that particular culture, but the warning is simply that this effect is not appropriate to all cultures- maybe in the same manner that a levitation routine where you flash the bottom of your shoes is inappropriate to one of those cultures that is offended by the bottom of your shoes. Take it or leave it. Maybe this means it's a good effect? Or maybe the shape and modeling of it resembling a voodoo doll is culturally insensitive when paired with a "trick" the way a levitating crucifix may insult my mom. I dunno. You pick. All I do know is I'll be leaving this one home, not in my desk at work. Not sure which one I more anxiously await. Your responses or the parent phonecalls. Also, learned a valuable lesson about haphazardly removing the gimmick. I've got trackmarks on my hand, and not much of a "sweet" spot. |

Your welcome Z man, happy to take time & share
Hey Robvs, that is actually good FYI/advice from your situation/story. I had something like that weeks ago at a friends, they're neighbors kids had some friends over that had Haitian background & when I did HD for them,......well lets just say it became a very interestingly powerful response from the kids & the parents......needless to say I am now viewed as a "bad man" by those neighbors.....LoL & as for the haphazardly manner that your doll was removed by them,.....I didn't have that happen, but o-u-c-h-ies Yes some of what we do as bizzarist's we do have to sometimes tread lightly & understand what line we may cross with others religion's & belief's......... |

ANY magic can offend someone. From the superstitious/un-educated to religious zealots. Sponge balls can scare/offend them. I'm always prepared for them, however. When they spout their pap, I pull out the Goshman Ding Dong. GAME OVER!

I had someone send me one of those as a "thow in" for an online order. lol
Let the record show, the haphazard removal of the gimmick was MY haphazard removal of the gimmick for the day, not the kid's swatting. |
