On the fantasio site he lists an appearing/vanishing candle (designed to both appear and vanish). I know the vanishing candle can also appear, but was wondering if anyone is familiar with this candle that is designed specifically with both appearing and vanishing in mind. I am looking to add some candle work to a routine and was wondering what candle to start with. I was looking at the vanishing candle since I was told it will also appear. But then I saw this appearing / vanishing candle when I visited the fantasio site.

The candle would be automatic in one direction(vanishing)and manual in the other(appearing).
FWIW

I just purchased the Appearing and Vanishing Candles from Fantasio. It is only a Vanishing Candle. The Appearing is done through manipulation, with the use of a silk or ribbon the candle can be made to appear behind it. The picture shows a ribbon and large silk, those do not come with the candle. The main feature of this product is the ability to make he candle appear behind a silk or ribbon, then hold the candle in the middle to show the audience, then the performer can put the in a candle holder or then cause it to vanish in any of the many ways available. If you click on he demonstration it will take you to you tube to show this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHXiU7cuov4&feature=youtu.be
Over the years some professional magicians could hold he candle in the middle when using a vanishing candle, this secret was never revealed by them. This is Fantasio's method of doing that display. |

Bill, I think the secret was a simple elastic band place around the bottom.

Is that different from the regular vanishing candle, or would it really matter which one I purchase. Clearly, from people's comments fantasio candles are the way to go. Will be getting his dvd as well.

Yes it is different then the regular Vanishing candle, you get a regular Vanishing Candle and an extra something; you can see the extra something in the picture.
No, sorry, this is old school, Fantasio Products do not come with a DVD. Did you watch the demo video referenced? That is what it does and should look like when you present it. This is a new idea, it is only mentioned in his hardbound book. He had an earlier way of doing this, and that method is a little different then this current offering. |

Thanks for the help. The dvd I was referencing is his lectures from the magic castle. Yes, I watched the demo video, that was helpful to see it performed. Always great to get knowledgeable advice on these forums. Great resource, and very helpful for putting together routines and learning.

And it only comes in white which is a consideration. I use red.

Bill Hegbli>>>thanks for the lovely link of Fantasio and the candle. I had not seen him in YEARS.
I started vanishing a candle in the late '40s. Roy Mayer did it in his school show. The ATOMIC CANDLE had not been "invented" then. I think it cost about $2.00! when it did come out.) Roy had one that cost twenty-five cents!!! He made it from a kids' toy for sale at Woolworth (5 & 10 cent store). The toy wss called "zoomerang" if I remember correctly. Even though the candle was of many colors, it looked great. (Roy had simply removed the handle from the toy and inserted a birthday cake candle.) Roy showed it to me, and I started using it the next week! (NOTE the Merv Taylor candle was new, then (about '49 or '50). Roy's ides was a hekkuva lot cheaper! (I was 17--$$$ didn't grow on trees!) HERE'S A TIP FOR FANTASION CANDLE USERS: (I don't remember where I got this--eons ago--but when I was using Fantasio's candles, this made it easier) Users understand about 'fueling' at the last minute (evaporation). I bought from a drug store some EYE DROPPERES. (little glass tube with a rubber cap on one end--like a tiny 'turkey baster') I discarded the glass tube and used the rubber caps to cap the tip of the c*ndl*, until just before the curtain opens. No evaporation, If this has already been published, I apologize, but I don't remember having seen it.
