I picked this up because I'm a fan of Devin's stuff and I particularly like Blindsight. There is a devious cunning to Blindsight that makes it a joy to perform.

As some have already mentioned Blindsight Outdone uses a totally different method. The big plus for 'Blindsight Outdone' is that it really is SUPER SIMPLE to perform. It only requires one move which is very easily disguised.

Basically, as in the original Blindsight- a stack of envelopes are shown to be opaque, four of these envelopes are removed and shown to have a different color card in each. The performer or the spectator can mix up the envelopes.

In the instructions for 'Blindsight Outdone' the envelopes are removed from the stack and handed to the spectator for mixing and they can freely be shown back and front. However the contents of the envelopes are not shown to the spectator at the start of the effect, they start in the envelopes and they are not removed. This means that the spectator do not actually see what each envelope contains. Instead the performer states that inside each of the envelopes is a different colored card. The cards are green, red, blue and yellow.

Although it isn't mentioned in the instructions you could modify the handling so that the cards start outside the envelopes and the spectator sees you place them inside the envelopes. This would necessitate some additional jiggery pokery which you may or may not be comfortable with.

For sure, at the end of the effect four colored cards are removed from the envelopes and shown to the spectator thus confirming that each envelope did contain a different colored card as the performer originally stated. However I think that this is weaker than the original Blindsight wherein the performer shows the cards at the start of the effect and is seen to place them in the envelopes.

The thing I really like about Blindsight is that you aren't limited to just colors. The cards could conceivably have anything on them and can be tailored to your audience. I recently did Blindsight for a bunch of GM employees and used pictures of iconic GM cars rather than colors. If I had performed 'Blindsight Outdone' the audience would not have seen the pictures of the cars until the reveals which would I feel have greatly detracted from the performance.

The use of the 'stack of envelopes' has been mentioned.

In Blindsight the envelopes are only in play right at the very start. The cards are placed inside the envelopes and the remaining envelopes are placed aside and not touched again. When you get into the main part of effect the only items on the table are the four envelopes with the four cards inside. I really like that clarity of just having four envelopes on the table and a pen in hand.

In Blindsight Outdone the stack of envelopes is in play at the start of the effect (as above) but it stays in play during the effect and allows you to do certain things that you weren't able to do in the original Blindsight. There is a rationale (but not a very strong one I feel) for the stack of envelopes remaining in play. It's niggling but only because the original Blindsight didn't require the envelopes to remain in play.

To be honest I'm not sure if I would perform Blindsight Outdone. Even though it is simpler to perform than the original I'm not keen on the idea of merely stating at the start (and not showing) what the envelopes contain. I am fiddling with ways to maybe overcome this limitation though.

Regards,
Lar.

I was trying to buy the "Blindsight Outdone" at Penguin but I've found a "Blindsight 2.0" version... wich is the last one and what are the differences between both?

Blindsight 2 is the stage version of Blindsight. Blindsight Outdone is the latest.

Loving Blindsight Outdone.

Lar, I may try your showing the cards first, ploy and see how it goes.

In a sit down situation, I have them mix the envelopes under the table, then bring out the one they think is the one I ask for.
While they are mixing I ask them to imagine things connected with each of the colours.
eg. I ask them to imagine being on holiday somewhere hot and sunny.
They are lying on their back in a pool looking up at a cloudless sky.
I ask them do they have that image in their mind?
OK then hand me whichever envelope you think has the blue card in. etc.

A very versatile effect. Lots of potential for cutomisation.

I like a lot of Devin's stuff. Not all, but a good amount.
I've just come up with what I think is a brilliant handling for a stage version of Wordsight.

I sat brainstorming this with a friend recently.
My new way for presenting this utilises words instead of colours.
It involves 3 participants
They all leave with your contact details
And the stack of envelopes is justified

Very happy. Thanks Devin

Lar's idea of showing at least some of the contents before hand has a lot of merit IMHO.
A slight change to the handling is all that's required.

Anyone thought of doing this without the envelopes?
Just using blank business cards.

Well I'm happy that I can think along the same lines as a giant like Mr Riggs.
