My wife won't let me raise doves so... We do have a pair of tame domestic white rats.
I would like something that can be used as parlor magic, for 10-20 people in a home. Any suggestions?? . |

Isn't a Dove just a flying rat? Oh, wait, that's Pigeons.
Anyway, I would think pretty much anything you can do with a dove you could do with a rat. Balloon to Dove - make the balloon look like a specific Harry potter character that is instantly transformed into a rat. I'm sure there are many others... Randy |

Depending on the size of the rats, I would think that you could use any production box or pan that you would use for rabbits. Are you expecting an audience 20 people before you produce the rats and 10 people afterwards??? LOL

I believe you will have to line all your props you put the rats in with metal so they will not eat their way out.

You think RATS might offer some "challenges"???
The late Al Robbins was a herpetologist/magician. For years, he would produce 4-6 LIVE RATTLESNAKES from a dove pan. It was his closing trick! (He couldn't follow that!) I saw Al do this! He picked up the snakes in his bare hands and held them up high. I never asked him how to load a half dozen wiggling rattlesnakes into a dove pan..... Al is on the cover of GENII in the late '40s or early '50s holding a good size python which is holding a chair with its tail.

In The Wizards' Journal #18, Spellbinder has an effect called "The Big Cheese" which he used to perform with his pet mice (combined with realistic puppet mice). Perhaps this is something you can work with. You need some simple woodworking skills to make a special mouse/rat cage. The Big Cheese itself can be made from cardboard or foamboard.

Balloon to bunny should work well with the rats. Though the comment about the snakes is making me wonder what I could do with a bearded dragon...

I used a DOVE/RAT bottle, as a teenager. It always played well, but took a bit of preparation!!! --and an assistant off stage.
