Hello everyone.
Paul Roberts has just released a new DVD with Taste Of Magic in which he reveals his working repertoire and his Electric Chairs routine. There is something in the DVD for close-up workers, cabaret or parlour settings as well as stage work. The project is a two disc DVD set and comes with bonus features, PDFs, joke lists interviews and more. The DVD also features a section about Jazz Magic so any thoughts about this would be great to hear?!?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CI5uV3CCh4 |

Does the DVD teach a method that can be used with real random people?

I have Ricky Dunn's Zapped. Is there anything new covered.
Thanks, Steve

I purchased "Zapped" years ago and was very disappointed with it. Paul's dvd not only teaches the electric chairs routine but a number of other items from his regular performing repertoire plus the additional content mentioned by tasteofmagic above.

It looks very similar to the unpublished version of Dominique Risbourg the famous pickpocket!

I would like to say that this is Paul's own routine and method that is on the dvd, for those commenting on Zapped book without viewing the DVD this just amazes me, how anyone can make such a comment without viewing something. However everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
If you view the trailer you will see that this dvd is not just the chairs routine but also as we stated earlier contains a 2nd disc with some of Pauls working repertoire, also an interview with 2 experienced working magicians, and a separate talk on Jazz magic. Magic Maddy all I was say is that the spectators are random, any further questions please PM so nothing is revealed in open forum. Thank You Quote:

Zapped uses spectators from the audience. I don't want to copy another performer's act. His personality is totally different then anyone else's.
I am sure from the trailer, he is a fine performer. The book tells you everything a person needs to know to begin building a Electric Chair routine. I keep hearing there is other things on the DVDs, but it is hard to know what they are, as no list is given. I would be interested to hear what is actually on these DVDs. Posted: Oct 14, 2013 11:43pm This is a UK product by a business called Taste Of Magic Productions. The DVD is called "Electric" by Paul Roberts. The description does not state this is a 2 DVD set, but the trailer does. It only states he will have effects from his working repertoire. It seems it is priced fairly, for 25 pounds, but is over priced for American customers do to the currency exchange rate. http://www.tasteofmagic.co.uk/electric-by-paul-roberts/ Anyway I believe there should be a better explanation of what is on the DVD if they intend to sell it. |

I feel what Paul offers is an improvement to Mr Dunn's booklet.
For those of you who don't know, Paul Roberts is one of the busiest professionals in the UK and has been for many years. If people like him release anything, it's always worth looking at and this DVD is no exception. One of the DVD's is dedicated to HIS Electric Chairs routine, which is quite frankly brilliant and is different to others that I have seen previously. Also, it has a lovely ending that makes the spectators look good, which I think really helps. Paul covers everything you need to present this great routine and leaves no stone unturned. This is ESSENTIAL information for anyone wanting to perform this kind of routine. It's the ultimate packs small, plays big routine. The other disc features Paul's close-up repertoire, again with live performances in various environments which are later explained in a studio with assistance from Shaun McCree and Harry Robson. As you can imagine, the explanations are very entertaining as well, with some very funny moments indeed. The routines themselves are Paul's versions on some classic plots, but the real value here is the little touches that Paul has added over many years of performance. The highlights for me were a card effect where a child does the trick without having any idea how he did it, Paul's Chop Cup routine, the section on moves with Jumbo Coins and the wonderful discussion on Jazz Magic. I love Paul's magic and thoroughly enjoyed this DVD set. Recommended! Iain. |

So there is no cueing of the spectators when they are on stage?
If so, I'll buy this as that would genuinely be something Ive not seen before. |

I've never seen an electric chairs routine live.
Trying to figure out what actually happens here... it looks like you are trying to perform another routine, but the real comedy and entertainment is that people keep getting shocked in their chairs for no apparent reason. Is that the basic idea here? Is there a payoff at the end? (if the end is the real "gold" of the dvd, then it's fine not to answer. However, so many routines being sold fizzle out without a strong payoff.)

Bill Hegbli,
£25 equates to around $40US for a 2 DVD set from a full time professional working performer. How is that over priced? Seems quite reasonable to me. Regards, Martin.

This is one of those items that I hope people keep talking themselves out of. Magicians are suppose to be entertainers. If you want to entertain, this is incredible.

Yep, nicely done by Mr Daniels. Is he using the tissue box to accomplish some of the dirty work do you think?

I remember first seeing that routine before I was interested in magic and thinking "how on earth did he do that". I think many performers can learn from his stage craft and presentation/audience skills. His chop cup is a masterpiece too.
