Sorry my applause got misplaced, so here's a second round. He likes to say that anything I say is banal. So be it. He just doesn't like what I have to say and he does indeed become an arse.

:applause:

And He who thinks He is smarter than anyone else in here will come back with some comment about my banality, because He really does think I care about what HE thinks. Anyway, thanks for setting the record straight better than I could have done because I'm not as skilled with words as you are Aces. Good job.

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

If his lineage goes back to Spain he would likely be Caucasian. But what difference does his race make, except possibly to someone who said that a white president would be a sign of progress in Mexico?

Give it up Bob. You are starting to embarrass yourself.

If we're going to pretend that Acesover's post was meant to be taken at face value, I have to say, I was very surprised at his bold prediction that Mexico will allow illegal immigrants from the USA to vote. That just strikes me as quite unlikely.

I'm not trying to pretend anything. I'm frankly sick and tired of the partisan politics projected by some folks here with an air of superiority toward those with whom they don't agree and then pretend to be fair and at the center. And I'm more surprised that those same partisans with the airs of superiority don't get deleted whilst others with whom they disagree, do. Frankly I find those poor individuals with their airs of superiority, quite laughable. Smile Christmas is only a few months off. Ho Ho Ho!

FWIW the unstated assumption in aces's (see?) joke was that American president = white. I think we can agree that that's a faulty assumption.

"Things will progress and before you know it you will have a white president of Mexico."

Kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it? A predictable follow-up to the post in which aces stated that he felt that Hispanics became Democrats because they "changed their morals" and were looking for handouts.

The president of Mexico comment struck me as a blatantly satirical statement.

As for the Democrats comment, you stopped your quotes just in time...the question was whether they changed their morals OR were looking for handouts. Now, if you think that's a false dichotomy, I wont disagree with you, but read the post he was responding to. The claim was that on moral grounds, Hispanics were, in the recent past, conservatives (at least in their voting). So the question was whether the fact that as a group they tend to vote liberal reflected a change in those morals. Perfectly reasonable question in response to the preceding post. Obviously SOMETHING changed, and the suggestion was that the rationale for their previous conservative votes was a moral one. Alternatively, he asked, if it WASN'T their morals, what was it? And the suggested alternative was that it was a response to one party's pandering to the demographic.

So it wasn't whether they changed their morals AND were looking for handouts; it was whether they changed their morals - those morals upon which it was suggested they recently used to vote conservative but now don't - OR it wasn't a moral change; it was simply a self-interested grab at handouts.

Now, I'm not endorsing that dichotomy; I'm just pointing out that:
1) he was responding directly to a post that said that the morals of Hispanics recently led them to vote conservative and now they don't - OBVIOUSLY that suggests that a moral change may have taken place. Not necessarily, mind you, a change for the worse. One might, for instance, vote conservative on moral grounds then change your mind about capital punishment and vote Democratic, if that's you're #1 issue. Changing your moral positions doesn't mean you're becoming immoral.

And

2) he didn't suggest what you're saying he suggested. He just didn't. He asked for a follow-up elaborating on the perceived explanation of a radical change in the voting behavior of a voting group that was claimed to have based its voting on moral grounds.

The president of Mexico comment struck me as a blatantly satirical statement.

Everything ABOVE that comment struck me as satirical. The President of Mexico comment itself seemed to me to be out of place. It didn't seem to follow what was written above it. I didn't get it. Given that country's history, I thought (perhaps mistakenly) Mexico would have had several "white" Presidents by now. So I really didn't "get" the comment / joke Aces made. I still really don't. So I'm not saying he meant one thing or the other by it, because I still don't get it.

It didn't help my understanding any that the final line was the one place missing "smileys" to indicate a joke comment.

Okay, Lobo. Let's accept that it's satire. What is its point? That after years of illegal immigration into this country we have now "progressed" to having a non-white president?

This is an international forum. There are many Spanish speaking members here, including Mexicans, who are our peers in magic. Is this sort of racial stereotyping disguised as "satire" really necessary?

An equally faulty assumption having nothing to do with the point ruining what might have otherwise been a funny joke.

I thought it had to do with the point in that it was going to be one of see North-to-South economic refugees who was going to become elected, so if the assumption was that the president would be white...

Although at this point, I think we're putting more thought into the analysis than went into the post.

I think that in the midst of making a satirical economic point, he took a detour to make a political point, and I think that that point was a shot at progressives and the perceived (asserted) view that "change" = "progress" = inherently good. That is (again satirically) it doesn't matter if you hate the ACA or you think the economy or the Middle East is in the toilet, we have a non-white president, so it's all good. So in parallel-universe-world where NAFTA and the economy sends refugees from the USA into Mexico in droves, they'd take it as a positive to have a president of a non-Latino race, because it would be change. Or something,

Now, I'm not saying it's funny, I'm not saying I agree with the portrayal of progressives, and I'm not 100% sure I have it right. But I'm *quite* sure he WASN'T saying, "Mexico is a really backward country that would be much improved with white presidents."

Alright I will explain my post to all for clarity which I thought was obvious.

1. "If this out flux of jobs to Mexico keeps up the American people are going to start sneaking across the border into Mexico to live and acquire employment.

Explanation of 1.

We have an issue with Mexcians sneaking into the Unitetd States from Mexcio for what seems ob vious reasons. Those reasons are better living conditions and better jobs. I do not now or see in the future of American Citizens sneaking into Mexico for the same reasons. JEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Mexico will them have an immigration problem.

Explanation of 2.

We definitely have what can be called an illegal immigration problem here in the United States of Mexicans sneaking across the border into the U.S. for their benefit. Again I do not see ther reverse happening. JEST
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Lots of Gringos.

Explanation of 3. I thought it sounded funny and I still do. JEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. They will probably start to give them all sorts of benefits in Mexico.

Explanation of 4.

We, meaning the U.S. are probably the most generous country in the world. I refer to health care, food help, and possibly amnesty for breaking the law and entering our country illegally. I could go on. I do not feel any other country would be as generous as the U.S. including Mexico in handing out such benefits. While there may be some I do not see any great exodus of those who arrived here going back. JEST
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Let them vote and grant them amnesty and make them Mexican citizens."

Explanation of 5.

See 4 explanation on benefits. JEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. "Things will progress and before you know it you will have a white president of Mexico."

Explanation of 6.

That this whole impossible senario will continue until there are so many white people in Mexico from the U.S. that there will be enough to have enough voting power to elect an exAmerican for president of Mexico by sheer number of illegal immigrants from the U.S. that have been given all sorts of benefits including amnesty and the right to vote along with their health care etc. that they will have enough votes to elect a Gringo as president. JEST
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is my story and I am sticking to it. I said nothing I feel bad about.

Just for clarification. If I had said. (You will have a white president of Mexico then things will progress.) Then I could possibly be blamed for what Bob is accusing me of. I did not say that. That is just Bob's twisted mind set in order to start an issue that does not exist.

If that does not explain it to you Bob then you definitely have issues that go beyond anything that can be dealt with here on this forum.

When a "joke" or an effect needs excessive explanation, it's usually a good idea to drop it from your act.

That is probably true for an act. However it also depends on your audience's Intellect. Guess nothing should be taken for granted.

"Queen" it is funny. (Understood by only those whom have seen the commercial.)
