The U.S. Postal Service put its Michelle Obama-inspired physical activity stamp series on hold due to safety concerns. The “Just Move” stamp series was initially conceived to “support” and “promote” the first lady’s anti-childhood obesity Let’s Move campaign. But according to a Postal Service spokesman, “The stamps are on hold with the printer and we have not made a decision at this point, right now, with respect to how we are going to move forward.” Apparently the illustrations on some of the stamps in the series feature activities that might not be considered safe — like doing a cannonball into a swimming pool. Other highly “dangerous activities” depicted on the stamps included a child doing a handstand without a helmet, and a skateboarder without knee pads.

At least JFK had a physical fitness agenda. Now it seems to be all about food. Nope, not going there. Smile
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

I'm glad I'm as old as I am, too. But I certainly didn't have a normal childhood!

"Sometimes I'm glad I'm as old as I am. At least I had a normal childhood."

I remember those days: rattling around the back seat before they had seat belts. I even went through the windshield once when I was 8 when my Dad got rear ended.
Yes, the good old days.

It's a safety concern. I don't see how it has anything to do with "political correctness", as the title of the thread asserts.

I could say that explains a lot, but I am not that kind of person. Smile

However:

How come you went through the windshield if you got rear ended?
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

Not a fan of the first lady. But a cause such as this igniting controversy?

Good on her for picking this cause. But safer things are good as well. Caution. How much outrage would a stamp inspired accident cause?

Don't know. I was 8 at the time and had just gone through a windshield.Well, not quite: more accurate to say my teeth went through my upper lip. The windshield stayed pretty intact.

Having handled hundreds of auto accident cases, I can assure you that a rear end hit will cause the body to lurch forward and back in a snapping motion. (That's where the term "whiplash" comes from.)

If you're not wearing a seat belt you can easily be thrown into the front seat or the windshield.

Then you'll be able to relate to what my music attorney told me years ago:

Yep. Or as Al Pacino's character memorably said in "And Justice For All":

Auto accidents are a violent proposition. There is just so much energy involved you can hardly imagine.

I have seen bodies torn from their shoes.

I rarely doubt things people say of accidents. You have to think physics not think logic. Or what passes for logic.

Anything not strapped down, including people, is going to bounce all over the place in a collision, no matter which part of the vehicle is struck. And in a rear end hit, the first instinct of both drivers is to immediately slam on their brakes.

I am amazed that anyone would actually question Slide's account of what happened to him in the accident. Is it necessary to argue about EVERYTHING?
