I vote "don't pour the soda" every time it appears on the ballot.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

We don't have levers in Virginia. We still use butterfly ballots and hanging chads. Keeps things interesting.

But they can tax you if you don't. It wouldn't help fix anything I don't think. Although if people suddenly got ****ed off because they got fined $100 for not voting, they might suddenly CARE about who is running. Otherwise, I think a far more effective solution to fixing our government would be a Constitutional amendment max term limiting Congress. |

Too many politicians do better with low voter turnout to make compulsory voting even a remote possibility here.
What I would support is making election day a national holiday, so that it's as easy for voters to cast their ballots as possible. Which won't happen either, for the same reasons.

And in many cases, the polling place is mysteriously allocated too few machines, requiring waiting in a long line to cast a ballot. Since employers are only required to allow an hour for employees to vote, some people are unable to get to the front of the line and cast their vote before their time is up- and when they come back after work, the polls have closed. Oddly enough, this tends to happen more frequently to the working class...

Sorry, my error.
Where I live no excuse to have an absentee ballot is necessary , it is even encouraged. If you want to save on postage we have a couple of drop off boxes here in Snohomish. I usually drop mine at the Library (I don't have a lot of faith in the postal system). We can register to vote at the post office, Library, courthouse or city hall. There may be registration options that I don't know about as well. I guess I'm lucky to live in such a voter friendly place. Iven

Did we even have in person voting in Washington during the last election? I don't think so. I believe it's all done by mail or taking your ballot to a drop box.
