I recently found an old half dollar flipper and a "bitten" quarter sitting in my "unused magic drawer" and neither has a band. I know the type of band needed, but which size band should be used for which size coin? They're available in many sizes (1/8", 1/4", 5/16", etc.).

It looks like 3/8" diameter is the largest size. I've read that a larger band can simulate a gravity flipper. Would 3/8" be appropriate band diameter for a half dollar flipper? Anyone?

Bob, I've never found a good, definitive list of band sizes for the various sizes and types of flippers. Best option is get a few and trial and error. Wish I could help more...

There's another thread in this forum discussing the elastic thread that crafters sometimes use for making beaded things. It can be tied to any length desired, and the tension thereby adjusted.

Interesting. I guess that could work as long as you're able to tie a small enough knot.
Trial and error may be the best option... hopefully, the size I try works so I'm not stuck with 99 bands that I don't really need. Of course, they don't cost more than a few dollars, so I'm not out huge sums if the size I get doesn't work out.

You can tie the knot large, just pull it tight.
