Can anybody tell me where to learn the coin bending Richard Osterlind does on his mind mysteries DVD vol 2 (it's in the bonus footage section). Thanks.

I think only Richard can tell you and I don't think he will. I have read here somewhere (in here) that is his pet trick and he isn't giving in up anytime soon. SWEET ,very sweet, trick.

The coin bend on Richard's videos is a pet of his, to be sure, and he's not talking. My guess is that he won't be talking anytime soon so don't go holding your breath. I can tell you that it looks every bit as good in person as it does on the video. It's killer!

I can't say I blame you Richard for keeping that one to yourself. It is a fantastic effect.

Bill Palmer mentioned in another thread that he and Ted Lesley visited Richard a while ago, and were fooled their shoes off with this coin bending.
According to Bill, they didn't have one single clue to how Richard does it. I guess there are pretty many of us who would do more or less whatever to get to learn this routine. On the other hand, if Richard released it, I guess it would be no sensation and stand alone any longer. Just anybody would do it Sven

Agreed, Sven. I think Richard should keep that routine for himself.
It's that good!

I love his coin bending. I love that everyone is blown away by it. I love the fact he's keeping it low profile.
Why? Because if he releases it, the armchair guys will all be out critiquing him, telling him how he's doing it wrong/could do it better. Modesty aside, I'm very good at working out methods, but that one fooled the living poop out of me. And I like it that way. Congrats, Richard!!! Blair |

Richard. Sorry to say, your secret's out and there is a whole group of guys hurridly trying to finish the manuscript to sell it under their name. You better hurry and do it yourself to beat them!
...hurry...go! I'll even proof-read it for free to save time! Jonathan Grant |

Nice try, Jonathan!
But I think that, being Richard a REAL mindreader, he will not fall for that!

Just for your info
Geller never did any other bending apart of spoons and the odd yale type key. It is us the mere mortal magi's who came up with the rest like coins and nails Cheers Mystic |

Mysticuk, actually Uri can be credited with devising nail bending too. He's also bent the odd knife, nail files, newspaper type, a spanner and numerous finger rings.

I have my own coin bending routine that I do a lot at Starbuck's (they have a tip jar) but it is a switch - impereceptable but a switch (i do all coins).
But I am looking for a signed coin bend. There is somthing called the boa on http://www.penguinmagic.com. It is pricey. Does anyone have any idea if it is worth it? |

Check Necromancer's Xpert...I think it is exactly what you are looking for. Hopefully he can fill in the blanks for me, but it has gotten rave review on this site. I highly recommend it.

Using the X-pert you can bend a signed coin in the specs hands.
The only condition is you need some other coins in their hand as well |

The other coins are a necessity...you never know if the signed coin will be the one to bend, or perhaps the one next to it. So far, I have only had the signed coin bend

Guys,
I want to thank you for your input on my coin bending. Please think about this. In days long ago, when there was no internet, nor even magic clubs, when people with names like Bosco, Robert Houdin, etc, roamed the lands, other magicians went crazy trying to learn their secrets. We read of these things in our books and daydream that we could have lived in those times to experience that wonder. We need more of these kinds of effects, exclusive to particular magicians, to bring back the secret nature of our art and the sense of wonder that surrounded it. Imagine if every magician in the world had just one effect that no other person knew the secret of. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Richard |
