I’m not sure which forum is the best place for these questions. They relate to mentalism products, so I am posting them here. But if a moderator has a more appropriate place for this, please feel free to move it to a new location.
Last year I participated in the release of the excellent “Mind Blasters USA,” and about 6% of my mailing list purchased copies. Since then, I sent out a bunch of complimentary supplements. So far, there have been 5 supplements, plus some complimentary notes sent upon a response to an email offer. There will probably be more supplements down the road. I’ve gotten a lot of emails, asking if I would sell the supplements separately, without MB USA. Due to demand, I am starting to consider it. Maybe I’d charge $10 or so for the supplements to date, plus a spot on my MB USA mailing list… The upside is obvious – to offer the MB USA supplements to the other 96% of my mailing list. But I see a few downsides A. There may be people who didn’t really want MB USA, but bought it just to get my complimentary supplements. They might be unhappy if they could have got them for twenty dollars less by waiting a year. I prefer to keep customers happy B. It could hurt my sales of MB USA A possible solution to problem B, would be to offer it only to my existing mailing list and only for a week. I cannot think of a solution to A What are your thoughts? Personally I don't think it would hurt sales of MB USA particularly if the supplements still come with MB so I think B covers itself. As far as A is concerned those that didn't really want MB USA still would have effectively got it for $20 and there has to be $20 worth of value in MB USA and failing that getting the supplements a year early is worth an extra $20. Wait long enough for anything and you will get it cheaper. I have saved a fortune by holding out for stuff.

I agree with Mark. I don't see a problem with selling the supplements separately.

Treat them as cousins but not part of the same thing in that one will actually encourage the sale of the other. . . those that buy the supplements may become inspired and by MB (which I've foolishly, never posted for sale. . . silly me)whereas (and as you've discovered) MB creates a drive train to your door when it comes to the supplements.
While I hate the term, it's a "Win Win" scenario When it comes to those that bought MB initially. . . you might offer a discount to those that you know for fact fall into this group on future EB Products or some other small compensation but I personally would just post an apology and explain that things change and life moves forward. |

Thank you, Mark, Bob and Bard. I appreciate your insights. I’ll probably go ahead and release this product at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Alternatively, keep the first couple of supplements exclusive to the MB project. If people want those supplements, they have to buy Mind Blasters.
Do an offer of the rest of the supplements, plus being added to the mailing list for future supplements for the smaller price point. That way, those who bought Mind Blasters for your supplementary work still have some exclusive material, but those who want in at a lower price can still get part of it and be on the list. Perhaps also offer an "upgrade" to the full MB for the difference in price if you think it is worth doing. Then the supplements can function as a teaser and give a limited-time option to upgrade for a smaller price. Or that might be too many different offers all at once. -Patrick |
