I was just reading a terribly interesting article about the history of the Ouija. One bit that jumped out at me was the story of scientists who, when trying to determine how it worked, would sit a stooge and a participant on either side of the Ouija board. Both would touch the planchette, then the participant would be blindfolded, then the stooge would remove their hands from the planchette. It would still move (as one would expect) and the participant would even complain that the other person was moving it. I would love to know if anyone has done something like this in a performance? Perhaps as a lighter note before the real fun begins?
Most interesting, however, was another test where they would ask the participants to answer a question to the best of their abilities (such as "Is Buenos Aires the capital of Brazil?"), and then to answer the same question with the Ouija board. The participants answered the questions correctly about 50% of the time with their own abilities. When they used the Ouija board, the accuracy jumped to 65%. I guess we don't know what we really know! |

Here's the link for further reading:
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-ar......101.html If that doesn't work it's currently a featured story on the Smithsonian magazine website. I definitely think there might be a routine in there somewhere! |
