Effect: Performer displays a penny at his fingertips. INSTANTLY and VISIBLY the penny CHANGES to a JUMBO PENNY! No sleight of hand, jumbo coin may be examined, 100% mechanical, learn in minutes, can be performed in short sleeves, complete with all necessary gimmicks. Jumbo penny measures approximately 2 inches in diameter. Use it left handed or Right handed. Photo illustrated instructions.
Price: 11.95 This is a sleight free transposition of a normal regular penny into a 2 inch penny. So easy because the gimmick does most of the work. It is fast and visual. As described you show a normal penny at the fingertips and place it into your other outstretched empty hand where is visually changes into a "jumbo" 2 inch penny which can immediately be handed out, you are totally clean here. Reset is fast and will be ideal for table hopping. This is a quickie but eyepopping for the spectators. Go to this link and you can see a very nice video with a few different ways this can be done. Well worth the 11.95 price. http://bobsolarimagic.com/shop/Cataclysmic%20Coin

From the bad quality video, it doesn't look like a Lincoln penny to me.
I think I see Honest Abe on one side, but it looks like the Twin Towers on the other. Is the Lincoln Memorial on the other side?

Yes, the Lincoln Memorial is on the tail side of the coin. I think the video shows the possibilities with this effect. I show a bag empty take the small coin and place it down in the bag and remove a large coin.
Then go into another effect with the the large coin.

Thanks, SWH.
It really did not seem to be the memorial from the video.

This used to be available in a nickel version and a quarter version as well as the penny version. Are the other two still available, or only the penny now?

Let me answer my own question above: Bob Solari said, in answer to a query from me, that he does indeed have a few of the quarter version and the nickel version left, but after those are gone he will offer this in the penny version only. I was interested in the quarter version because, in an earlier thread relating to Cataclysmic Coin, someone said the quarter version, being larger, shows up better from a distance.
Also, however: I just received the effect, and I have serious doubts about doing this "in short sleeves," i.e. without a jacket on, as the ad copy says you can. At the very least, the angles will be very bad if you try to do it that way. Note how tight the focus is in the video, on the midsection only of the performer. If it showed his whole body, I think something would be seen that should not be seen. What is anyone else's experience with doing this without a jacket? |

Is the jumbo coin metal?

Yes it is metal. Its actually got some weight to It which I like when handing it out (I have the penny and the quarter one also). Its cool because when you drop it in the spectators hand to examine, they may be thinking plastic and then they feel it and its heavy

I got this today and was not impressed with the quality.. I may use the jumbo coin but the rest will go in a drawer. Disappointed.

Hi Cotham,
Do you mean the gimmick is not workable ? |

Correction: The one that comes with the penny is a plastic one, but I believe that the one with the quarter is metal.

Thanks for the information on the material of the penny.
I guess the effect is a transformation in size and from metal to plastic. I'm mot sure audiences would be pleased with that. To me that says switch not magic. I currently perform a change of a penny to a 3" metal penny. This gets a very strong reaction. For experiment I am going to try it with a 3" plastic coin and see if the reaction is the same. |

I couldn't resist picking this up for the price, just for the jumbo coin alone. But alas, the jumbo coins are all plastic, and extremely poorly made, cheap plastic ones at that. I got the quarter version and emailed Bob, but he replied that the penny is plastic also. Perhaps earlier versions were metal.
This is a case where I think the gimmick creates more problems than it solves. Better to use SOH. Every other effect I've purchased from Solari has been great but this is a draw-liner. At least for me, if anyone else wants to give it a go then PM me and I'll give you a great deal on it. |

Jumbo coins are the most surprising way to finish your coin routine. This version is easy to use and makes the big finish ; )

I tried changing a small metal penny into a jumbo plastic penny with very poor results.
It killed the effect. It was better after I changed the jumbo plastic coin into a jumbo metal coin but the best is to change metal to metal. Close-up audiences want to hold the results of this kind of magic in their hands which strengthens and extends the effect. So a plastic version of Cataclysmic Coin doesn't seem right for me. I think I will buy Solari's Misers Miracle instead. |
