My introduction to magic came with a fascination in sleight-of-hand, particuarly with cards and notes. Although I do occasionally use gimmicks I much prefer to perform clean, both magically and hygienically.
Recently I have become fascinated with Victorian era magic, in particular Spiritualism. I find the ambience and atmosphere created by a creepy 'mediumship' setting much more theatrically pleasing than other styles of performance! So...Hello! I look forward to joining in with the discussions! Pierce |

Welcome Pierce,
The connection (and disconnect) between Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has always been interesting to me. What led you to Spiritualism? (And it better not be a G-G-G-Ghost!) -Mary Mowder |

Hi Mary!
I think it was a love for horror that led me to it. Creepy horror films set in the Victorian era always scared me more than those in a modern setting, and I guess mediumship and spiritualism was always the natural way to follow. Derren Browns stage work was a huge eye opener for me aswell, as I had personally always seen stage magic as unnattractive whenever I had seen it presented before. Watching his Enigma show managed to pull me away from the cards and start thinking on a stage level instead. I guess it is purely the theatricality of it that attracts me. I find it much more 'believable' than traditional presentation. Pierce |
