I'm a magician, and I'd like to learn the distant voice effect, performed without moving my lips. This would be part of a magic routine, eg a ghostly voice coming from the ceiling.

My problem is that all the ventriloquism courses I've seen are very comprehensive, and cover way more than I need, eg working with figures, developing scripts, etc.

Is anyone aware of any training resources focusing on voice throwing?

Check out Paul Winchell's ventrilosquism for fun and profit tape...it's the best resource I've found on the subject.

I will recommend two audios to you. Several distant voice effects are demonstrated, that way you can hear exactly what it should sound like. That was a HUGE help to me when I was trying to learn distant voice. Bob Neller's ventriloquism tape (I believe now available as a CD), and Bill Boley's Advanced Ventriloquism tape. I have the Bill Boley tape on Advanced Vent..cassette.

The only think that would make it better would be to have it on C/D.

I also learned Distant voice by watching Col Bill Boley's videos.

Mark Wade's Advanced Ventriloquism covers both the Distant Voice and the Baby Cry techniques...

Dr Paul Winchell discussed and demostrated the Distant Voice very well in his tape using two distant voices aside from his own normal voice...one seemingly coming from the basement and one coming from the top floor...amazing!!!

Might get a lesson from one of the best with a distant voice, "Nacho Estrada"

Agree! I met him once, and he tried to fool me, but I catched him!
Because I was awared about his capability.

Judy Buch also very good! She can make it, that like someone go down the stair to basement, while counting a loud.
