The performance included illusions and magic woven together by well written theatre. There was a prediiction effect with a kicker, an illusion where he was the guinepig and he closed with a snowstorm. Any of the effects could have been changed out and the act still would have worked because of how he tied everything together. As I was watching the performance, at the Magic Castle, I imagined how other entertainers, during WWII, Korea and Nam related to their audiences in times gone by. I thought this is probably the first time many of the people in the audience were exposed to magic and illusions with a patriotic theme. I'm glad they appreciated it.
It's obvious Mr. Anderson did his homework by seamlessly weaving his personal story into the performance. He also used a some multi- media as a way to relate his experiences, lend creditability and segway to the closing effect (snowstorm). But it wasn't any perticular effect or the order they were performed in that "made the show" it was his ability to engage the audience using well chosen words in a patriotic fashion that we don't see much of these days. All in all, Scott was personable and likable while he entertained everyone with his illusions. I would have liked to see an hour long presentation but the constraints of the Palace at the Castle only allow fifteen minutes.

I'm checking it out this weekend.......on a scale of 1 to 10 where do you put it? How were the other acts you saw this week?

What can you say about Puck and Denny? They made me feel I was 12 years old again. All three lived in the moment. For them the impossible.... was possible.
I wish other performers would learn to entertain like the three of them do. I even sent Denny an Email expressing how much I appreciated his work. So you're going Saturday?

Not sure yet, it depends on when I get in to LA. Maybe Friday, or sunday. I'm playing it by ear right now. So from the sounds of it you would give all three a 10....is that what I am hearing....or are you just being nice and skirting the question.

They all deserve a 10 and no one is paying me to say that.

Hi Jay, I must admit that I got somewhat teary eyed after reading all the info on you. For all the good you're doing for this troubled world, I would hang a title on you that says, "he's a Prince of a man". Need I say more?
God bless and keep going where there is no path and leave a trail. Bill
Do not go where the path may lead, but go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Thanks Devious! I had a blast and it was a real honor being able to work with Denny Haney and Puck. I will post a video as soon as I get it edited.

W_S_ Anderson, All I could say was WOW! Your first routine left me speechless, the second left me in stitches, and the third left me sobbing. When I say "me" that could confidently translate to "the whole audience." I wouldn't post a video, someone will surely rip off your material. I went in with high expectations with Jay's review, but even those were wildly exceeded. I secretly wanted to come back here and post some smack, but now I wish I could watch your full show. Are all of your routines based on real events from your life? We heard a story from Afghanistan, one from Boot Camp, and one from Iraq. I loved the sawing in half illusion you did......it was great to finally see that prop live. It is super deceptive, and it was nice to see the smoking hot assistant pull the magician in half for a change instead of the status quo.
I had never seen Denny Haney before. He was awesome as the host/MC, he was hilarious, and his card manipulation routine was flawless and beautiful. His egg bag routine was great! Puck was great! I love his style and his music really fit his routines. He did a routine with an audience member as the magician where they had a tux on with Pucks arms through it. I might have peed a little bit during it, it was so funny. He did a really cool cut and restored rope routine to the Beatles song "come together," and a cut and restored handkerchief/newspaper combo trick with a vanish and reappearance of his sunglasses. He finished with his dancing hank routine from AGT but he seemed to crack up towards the end, he was laughing like something went wrong, I couldn't tell, but it still looked wonderful to me. That's the mark of a true performer. |

Oh something went wrong alright.......terribly wrong. I can tell you were at one of our last shows on Sunday. Puck made the awful mistake of telling me that Sunday nights were historically prank nights in the palace of mystery. There is a part of his routine where the hank dances in a jar, and Puck turns to the right to motion it back over to him. So when he turned to look at his hank, he saw my version of his trick off of stage right which I titled "the dancing skank." The dancing skank was me in the right wing gyrating with nothing on below the waist shaking my naked white @55. Needless to say, Puck cracked up and prank night was resurrected! |

I wasn't going to say anything but there is a TV monitor in the office that films everything back stage for insurance purposes
