Did anyone else watch the fights last night?
Being Canadian, I wanted GSP to win but Hendricks got robbed IMO. I guess that's why they say "never leave it up to the judges". I am however surprised the GSP was able to take Hendricks's punches, others would usually have been knocked out. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Darren

It doesn't surprise me that GSP was able to take Hendrick's punches though because I know he trains very hard, probably harder than the average professsional fighter and so is able to take some pretty heavy punches. Actually, fighters in general get used to taking some pretty hard hits just in daily training. So, it's not something that really surprises me.

I think it's time for him to hange the gloves up. Watching/reading his recent interviews, he seems like his heart is no longer there. I do however feel he needs to fight Hendricks before he retires, Hendricks deserves it and I'm pretty sure George knows that.

I think you could hit that guy with an anvil and he might take it.
He aged well and his style evolved. Not many can say that. I do think he passed the stopping point. He should think of hanging them up. I am a fan and would hate to see him hang around and embarrass himself. Go out while people remember you as someone to be compared to. Not a cautionary tale.

GSP announced right after the fight that he planned to take time off for personal reasons, and said he wasn't sure when (or if) he would be back. Lots of uncertainty about what exactly he meant.
http://www.thestar.com/sports/2013/11/17......ory.html Moments after winning a controversial razor-thin split decision over No. 1 contender Johny (Bigg Rigg) Hendricks on Saturday night, the battered UFC welterweight champion hinted at retirement in cryptic post-fight comments in the cage — citing unexplained personal issues and the need to step away — before being transported to hospital. When he returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena midway through the post-fight news conference, the Canadian poured gasoline on the fire. “I can’t sleep at night now. I’m going crazy.” he said. “I have issues. I need to relax. I need to get out for a while. I don’t know what I’m going to do.” He declined to detail the issues. UFC president Dana White, after meeting privately with the 32-year-old from Montreal, said St-Pierre’s personal problems “aren’t as bad as he thinks they are.”

Dana White thinks there are no personal problems which can not be solved with money.

Apparently GSP's father, who he is very close to, is dying. Some reports also have him dealing with a woman that he has impregnated and is insisting on having the baby against GSP's wishes. Not sure which, if either, problem Dana was aware of when he made his typical Dana style comment.
Wasn't at all surprised by the "bad" decision in the fight. Seen it way too many times in the UFC. It's comical to hear Dana gripe about another "bad" decision when he's already planning the rematch and another giant PPV payday. It's not like this is the first time there has been a controversial decision, setting up an immediate rematch, which one guy usually wins in decisive fashion. He was hyping it immediately making what I considered a silly comment about GSP winning only the first round and the rest of the fight being a total blowout for Hendricks. Gimme a break. It was definitely a close fight. Also not shocked by Dana saying that GSP "owes" it to the UFC not to retire and "owes" it the UFC and Hendricks to set the rematch asap. |
