No fair using a search engine. I think Brother Vlad will know who he is, though.

I forget which songs in particular, but that was George Harrison's pseudonym for some writing he did with Eric Clapton for Cream.
How about S. Flavius Mercurius? Again, no cheating. |

Here's one: guitarist Sam Diego.

S. Flavius Mercurius has me stumped.

Me too. Does it have anything to do with Queen or Freddy Mercury?

I don't come across too many people familiar with Roy Harper so I guess I'm not too surprised nobody got this. Roy Harper's (awesome) album "Stormcock" featured Jimmy Page on guitar credited as S. Flavius Mercurius for contractual reasons.
This one should be easier. Who were the members of the one-off supergroup "The Dirty Mac"? Bonus points for naming the TV special they were put together for. So Arthur, how about a hint for Sam Diego? |

In his youth, he was in a band with David Bowie called George & The Dragons.

Correction: Upon further investigation, I discovered the above is not true. But it is true that the guitarist nicknamed Sam Diego and David Bowie were pupils at the same school, and spent time together at lunch playing Buddy Holly songs.

I'm sure Peter Frampton and David Bowie were at school together.
I remember finding that fact out, when it was announced that Frampton was going to go on the "Glass spider" tour alongside Bowie.
What do we want?

Spot on, Ray! I was wondering if anyone would figure it out.
When I toured with Peter Frampton, we always used pseudonyms when registering at hotels, so we wouldn't be besieged by groupies. One of Peter's favorite "nicknames" was Sam Diego. He also used that name on a number of albums we worked on, for example Lisa Bade. She was a great 1980's Australian singer, and I was hired by A&M Records to arrange most of the tracks on her album. (Although I got credit for playing keyboards, my arranging credit never appeared on the liner notes). For the Lisa Bade recording dates, I put together two great studio bands: One in LA featuring guitarist Steve Lukather and drummer Jeff Porcaro (from the band Toto); and the other in NYC featuring guitarist Mick Ronson (David Bowie) and drummer Rick Marotta (James Taylor, Steely Dan & many more). For a few of the tracks in LA, I brought in Earl Slick (John Lennon & Yoko Ono) and Peter Frampton on guitars. Due to record company contracts, Peter had to use his Sam Diego pseudonym. Here's a link to the Lisa Bade liner notes: (note Sam Diego) http://waddywachtelinfo.com/LisaBade.html |
