I just picked up Heinsteins Dream. The signed torn and restored card effect from Karl Hein. As always, I'm not surprised by the awesomeness of this effect/DVD. Karl's production quality of the DVD is top shelf. He offers 3 different variations of the effect, which I think is fantastic! The first version is a flash restoration, the second is a restoration that takes place in the spectators hand with no angle issues. And the third is an incredible piece by piece restoration.
The explanations on the DVD are amazingly clear. One touch that it really liked, was when he had something very specific to highlight, he would literally put a light on where your fingers should be. He offers complete history of the effect and how it came to be. He also does a fantastic job crediting all the other magicians and effects that inspired his version. Variation 1: Flash Restoration This flash restoration is one of the best I've seen. You are able to see all the torn pieces and their ripped edges right before the restoration happens. Then you can immediately hand the card out. The handling is very straight forward. I think this would be well within the grasp of a beginner. And strong enough for a seasoned professional. The only downside, which I don't consider a downside, is there are a few angle restrictions. But that is easily remedied. Variation 2: In the Hands Restoration I'm not big on in the hands restoration. Especially if I can do a piece by piece. But what's nice abut this version is that, it is completely angle proof. The folding and tearing procedure is the same for all the versions, which is fantastic! No need to learn all different handlings to perform the different versions! And once again at the end of the effect you can give the card away. Variation 3: Piece by Piece Restoration The first piece by piece torn and restored card I learned and performed was Torn by Danny Garcia. It was a workhorse for sure. But this may replace it. I feel that the handling is more open and clear. There are no funny moves, like there are with Reformation. It looks so fair that nobody will question it. As far as P by P restorations go, this is tops. I've read and learned many, from Paul Harris,Ben Harris, John Lovick, Guy Hollingsworth. They all have their pros and cons. But wth Karl's methods, I'm having a hard time finding any cons. Bottom line: Pick this up! You will not be disappointed. Absolutely worth every penny. |

Just got this the other day. It's interesting but not for me. I've played with just about every torn and restored out there and this one I have to say is not even in my top 3. For piece by piece I still prefer Hollingworth's and for flash restoration I still without a doubt prefer Brent Baun's torched and restored. To me Heinstein's versions are too fidgety. Even though you start with empty hands and end with empty hands, all the unnecessary moves and "messy" fingertips ruin it for me. I'm sure others will like it though. Just not my cup of tea
