Not everyone likes Thanksgiving. I like sharing time with the family, but here is someone who wants you to consider some alternative ideas:

I'm watching the parade, eating snacks and I'm going to eat some turkey.

I feel sad for this guy that all he can see is the negative in things.

Being politically engaged is cool. I admire it. But the dude is strange. There is a difference between engagement and fanaticism.

Check out this:

Plant abuse?

Of course, I suppose one could call genetic engineering "abuse", but...ah...come on! Plant abuse?

They are forced to stand in rows rather than grow wild. They are subjected to all sorts of chemical baths at our whim. You don't call that abuse!!!

And candied yams, now that is plant abuse!!!!

I agree that the writer is often bombastic and (deliberately) provocative. But I think his reading of the historical record is pretty accurate. Are there any historical matters of fact in the essay that you think are incorrect?

As for fanaticism--well I can't speak for the author, but I suspect he would think that the term fanatic might be better be applied to folks who keep their eyes closed to their country's history and continue on a destructive path despite the destruction of their past actions.

Anyway, thanks for reading the essay.

... the ritual slaughter of turkeys...

I just flashed on an image of a group of people dressed in long black robes, the leader standing at an altar with a turkey tied down spread eagle and everyone chanting occidere turpis, occidere turpis, occidere turpis.

Probably an old joke, but I just read of facebook

"I never understood why the #Lions and #Cowboys always get to play on Thanksgiving. Shouldn't the Patriots play the Redskins, and then steal their stadium afterwards?"

Magnus, just curious, why is there a number sign in front of the team nicknames?

Landmark is correct. It was likely a tweet that somebody posted on Facebook. I removed most of the hashtags and missed two of them. Somehow Twitter interprets the words preceded by # for sorting and alerting purposes.

What commercially produced animal do we eat that is allowed to run free? Even many Vegetarian's are guilty of eating food that is produced under very bad conditions. Those poor chicken's who lay the eggs that many of us enjoy, are over crowded and are not allowed to move ten inches and are never allowed to live anything like a real chicken and roam free.

Anyone who uses leather products is also guilty of animal abuse, although most don't think that far. Animal products are also used in cosmetic's and medicine. It is pretty much impossible to live a normal life without being party to animal abuse and slaughter. Some of us live in denial and some of us admit our role in the abuse of animals. Then again, some of us don't give it a thought but are ready to criticize other's.

By the way, that "Turkey" that President George Bush was holding looks more like a chicken to me. I would be embarrassed to serve such a tiny Turkey to our Troops.
