It's not Vernon and it's not J. Warrens.
Anyhow ... I forgot two more, and they have more to do with the "selling" of magic. First, unscrupulous manufacturers who blatantly steal effects and then, oh what's the word I'm seeking ... oh yeah, then "stiff" customers with said inferior product. Second, Magic videos which have more stupid camera tricks than a two bit dog and pony show. Included here would be: The outdated handheld jiterring, swaying camera work that was cool only in the Blair Witch Project. The "tough" magician in the bad neighborhood. Get real, doing the Sybil cut while sporting spiked hair, multiple piercings, and a leather jacket in a staged set means nothing. It doesn't add anything to the instruction and the only real tough neighborhoods these guys ever saw was watching reruns of "Cops." Just teach, please? Best, Vlad PS: Geeze, I can't believe that none of mentioned this: moistening one's thumb by going to the mouth!! ACK!!!!!! If your thumb/fingers are THAT dry, either use some skin lotion, or carry some of that pink stuff that bank tellers use to count bills. Bodily fluids should stay in the body art least in magic performances. Elsewhere, well, I'm hopeful that many will know when bodily fluids are not only accepted but encouraged. 'Nuff said. |

When magicians count cards under 10. Example: "I am going to use five cards. One. Two. Three. Four. Five."

The only real peeve I have, or certainly the only one of importance, is my dislike of snobbery in magic.its why I almost left the Café recently. (thanks to everyone who talked me out of it!).
When I first joined as a new user, I didn't want to be another lurker.i wanted to talk magic! My first attempt to join a conversation was met immediately with a ' can you please explain your 'credentials' as a card worker before posting here'?!? If anyone knows of these credentials, please let me know! There's no reason to talk down to a stranger, of assume their technique is inferior. 'New user' doesn't always mean ' new to magic'. K |

1.) Squaring a squared deck.
2.) Shrugging, blinking, chicken-winging when executing a pass 3.) Having the card signed when it's unnecessary 4.) Not having the card signed when it is necessary. 5.) Billiard ball manipulation done with one hand, or in front of the chest, or both! 6.) No misdirection when making a steal.(Just because we can't SEE you stealing a load, doesn't mean that we don't KNOW you are) 7.) People who don't read books. 8.) People who lose interest in anything that's in print. "Where can I learn that?!" "It's in a book." "oh.....never mind" 9.) People who use misdirection to patch holes in their routines rather than sewing it into the routine in the first place. 10.) People who don't know who Cardini, Tommy Wonder, Johnny Thompson, or Slydini are. 11.) People who try to do Slydini's magic as is, who aren't old Italian gentlemen. 12.) The Vernon final load sequence done by 98% of people. The fact that 98% of people do the sequence incorrectly. 13.) People who consider any magician's thoughts as gospel(no exceptions). 14.) The hindu force. 15.) The riffle force done when the person is only a couple feet away.(Totally illogical, you could just have them take a CARD!!!!) 16.) People who think Criss Angel is cooler than Lance Burton. 17.) People who when backpalming cards look like they're having some kind of seizure. 18.) People who make moves important. (drawing attention to the pass, french drop, retention pass, double lift, etc. ) 19.) People who execute sleights in front of an audience, rather than performing. 20.) Starfish classic palms. 21.) Negative people. I think that's enough venting for now. Thanks for listening. -Leo |

I have no idea what all the controversy is about, being new and all, but I enjoyed the interview - very interesting.

Not listening to everyone's rave reviews over Brent Brauns Torched & Restored. Over a decade since it's release and only purchased it last month.
The best flash restoration IMHO. Lesson learned. Thanks for everyone input so far, some great responses. Greig |
