I finally had an opportunity to watch the film, "Taxi Driver."
Yes, it's the first time ever and I lived a very sheltered life. What a quirky and creepy little film. If he had just taken her to another movie instead of the soft porn one, his life would've taken an entirely different turn. I was also disappointed that he rebuked Cybil Sheppard at the film's end. I'd sure like to see an updated version of this film. I can't keep myself from repeating, "You talkin' to me?" this morning. Connie Foster, Jodi's 20 year old sister was the stand in for the more suggestive scenes since Jodi was only 12 at the time of filming. |

One of the all time great films. Must have seen it at least 30 times. First time I saw it was on a trip to Manhattan in the mid 70's when the film just came out. Manhattan was just like it was portrayed back then.

A little trivia about the "talking to me" scene. Scorcese was calling out instructions to De Niro off camera and De Niro was so into character that he was responding to them that way. I love stuff like that.

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

A classic! Martin Scorcese was the guy in the back of the cab in one scene. And great work by Harvey Keitel too.

It's years since I seen it and I know I loved it but .... well I can't recall now what it was about.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Why don't you look at it again, maybe you'll remember it, and well, maybe you won't.

This was the film that made De Niro a major star. (And a very disturbing story as well. One of my favorite films.)

The American Film Institute rates Di Nero's famous quote as #10 of the greatest movie quotes of all time. Here is their Top 10:
10. You talking to me? 9. Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night. 8. May the Force be with you. 7. All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up. 6. Go ahead, make my day. 5. Here's looking at you. kid. 4. Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. 3. You don't understand! I coulda been a contender. I could've been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am. 2. I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse. 1. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a ***. |

Indeed, Michael. It was actually:
Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By." |

Actually, the line in the top ten from Casablanca is "Here's looking at you, kid."

Quite so, Bob. I thought Cliffg37 must have spotted it, but was looking for "that other" memorable line.
