So I know there haven been topics on this before, but instead of resurrecting those I decided to start one of my own. Last year, we sold our large super X to Jeff Wampler, the famed magi. Performing smaller school shows, I used a Sommer's chair suspension with my daughter, and was very happy with the results.
After not being able to tell from Café ramblings whether or not I thought the Walkaway X would be worth investing in for some stage shows next year, we decided to bite the bullet. We got it yesterday, and are very happy with it. I'm attaching a pic so you can see it - I know a video would be more helpful, but this will have to do for now. Also, I know some people had talked about the base bowing in the middle. There is a support beam underneath, and the base feels plenty sturdy. That being said, my daughter only weighs around 60 lbs, so this will probably not be a problem for us.

Used one for years with my daughter. (Still my avatar) Add a Blaney Great White Hoop and it gets a great reaction. A little fog curling around the support at the head helps too.

Yeah, Mike, a hoop is definitely our next investment. Thanks Eldon.
I was really surprised when I received it. I know a lot of guys knock Jim for his quality of materials sometime, but we were very happy. I sold most of the big stuff last year, and just wanna focus on doing some shows with my daughter, and this is great for that.

Get a Blaney ladder levi. You'll never look back.

Tyler - there is no doubt in my mind that is true - and 10 years from now, if my daughter still has the interest in magic she does now, that could be a possibility!

Mike let me try the Blaney hoop one morning. It's unfortunate sometimes that we can't show our audiencse how ingenious certain props are. Never mind the levitation, I would just like to play with the hoop all day!

There are a variety of ways to walk away from a Super X explained in Spellbinder's "X-orcism" e-Book found in his Mini-Mysteries Section, Book 3. There are also some clever hoop moves you can do with one or two kid's hula hoops, for those who can't afford a Blaney hoop, wonderful as that is. Plus other tips and tricks on getting rid of the gremlins that give away the method of the Super X, like bounce, and wiggle, shadows, and such. The best part is that you don't have to modify anything about the Super-X but your thinking in most cases.

Why are the supports so thick? THink it would look more convincing with a thinner profile.

Jim, they could be half the size - but I think it's trying to sell the fact the supports are actually holding the person

More than the thickness, I think they should be a contrasting colour. Everything seems to blend together. Perhaps a red or blue. Also they need to be angled out more rather than leaving them straight on. It would help sell the fact that the supports are separate from the support board.

John, I did think about the color. I actually thought about making my own out of a little sturdier material, and making them a little thinner.

I don't know the style of your show Mike, but perhaps making the supports look like old time suitcases with travel labels might look cool.

Visited the thrift-shop, got a bunch of cases & trunks, took out the trusty saws-all, and started playing. If I can find some photos (not sure if I still have some), I'll post 'em. It was a bulky load of props, but maaaaaaan did it look cool. And looked pretty "impromptu," as far as illusions go. |

I also just noticed that the supports are not "dropping" down to the floor level. that's a giveaway.

But they can so easily be made to drop down to the floor ala the flying carpet screen.
