All I have are Bobo's and some of the information gleaned off Eric Jones' Metal series... most of my coin work to date has been with ungimmicked coins, but I am in possession of enough money these days that I'd like to expand into the miracles that gaffs can enable.
The problem is, I don't know enough about what gaffs there are, and what effects can be seen with them. I don't have money to buy each one and see how I could use them, and many of the instructional resources I have only deal with the classic gaffs, and none of the newer stuff. In short, with just a few resources, it is easy to learn enough sleight of hand to easily become a competent judge of routines and whether certain ones will work for me - but I have no basis for comparison once gaffs are involved. Furhermore, its hard to be inventive without knowing what has come before. For example, I "designed" a gaff that could be used in a Miser's dream routine, only to find out about fliprz and realize my idea was woefully inferior. I don't know how many others are out there - and before I start dumping money into every worm dangled in front of me, I'd like to learn more about what is out there. Ideally, I would just ask a mentor who knows about this stuff. Unfortunately for me, all the guys I know are card guys and my mentage comes from this website... Are there any comprehensive resources that talk about the capabilities and limitations of products available today? |

Johnson Products has a Website that describes the gaffs they sell.

Smart recommendation, Atom. Johnson probably has the most complete line of gaffs (other than the recent products such as TUC, 3t, TTGF-O, Superfly, CFWM, etc whose creators would probably not appreciate being included in any "comprehensive resource" that would expose their secrets).
If you decide to take Lawrence's advice and get a TUC, I would recommend that you read as much of the TUC thread as possible (you will find a lot of good information there that will help you know whether it is right for you, which one you want, etc.), and that you consider one of the larger coin denominations, and also that you consider collecting and sending your coins directly to Mr. Tango to be made into a TUC. BTW, I have had great luck buying directly from Mr. Tango by PMing him here on the Café. Alan |

NYCMS.......check this resource out for many options as to where you want to go. I would personally start with copper/silver, but that is a very subjective recommendation

You really can't go wrong with a Half Dollar T.U.C. in my opinion. It's one coin from Tango I DO recommend for gaffed coin workers.

Doesn't the TangoPedia cover a broad range of gaffs?

This disk comes free with a Tango purchase (though old stock sometimes does not include the disk) of any Tango gaff other than the TUC. If you can find something you can use from Tango (other than the TUC), this is a great free add on. |
