I have an effect that requires forcing one particular suite. Now depending how the effect plays out the suite could be different each time. At this point in the effect I am only focused on having the spectator select a suite and nothing else. Now I do have an effective way of forcing the suite that is very similar to an effect in the Safwan Papers but I wanted to see if there was an even better method out there. My goal is to have a method that is quick and fair looking. I don't want to have to spend too much time with the selection process and would like to avoid additional props if possible. If anyone has any ideas then please PM me and we can talk in more detail.

Forcing a suite? You mean like making them pick a particular hotel room?
 But if you mean "suit" and are referring to playing cards you might want to ask this in Inner Thoughts as we don't discuss methods in the Penny forum. |

Sorry my tablet likes to correct to suite more than suit. Thank you for correcting me. I can only imagine the confusion that could come from such a typo. ;-)
I'm not asking for methods to be discussed here but through PM. I have not revealed any secrets nor am I asking anyone else to. I will post in the inner thoughts as well but it does have a tendency to move slow and can take a while to get responses. All I am asking is that if anyone has any ideas or could even point me to any literature that might give me some fresh ideas then I would be most thankful. I would assume it's OK to recommend literature on these forums and if someone wants to share a particular method then they can contact me through pm. I see request for method discussion via pm all the time throughout these forums. I was unaware that my request would be inappropriate. |

It's not that slow in Inner Thoughts. You already got two answers down there on this question and when you asked about a billet method in Inner Thoughts you got fourteen answers pretty quickly.
Personally I think that everything that even remotely involves discussion of method shouldn't be in an open and publicly searchable forum. But, hey, that's just me. |

Agreed. I'd like to see Inner Thoughts used exclusively, as even the most innocent questions can turn into exposure further down the thread.

My apologies. I will refrain from posting such questions here. It was not my intention to create a thread that might eventually expose anything in the open forums, hence why I requested to be PMed. I have received some good answers and I thank those who took to the time to help me out. I believe I have found an even better method than I had before. I wish you all the best. ;-)

Yes God forbid someone posts a thread that might involve someone else coming in and revealing a method! Sure glad you all set him straight. Magicians helping magicians indeed!
If your interested in psychological forces which I gather from your reference to Bryn's material then you might also check out Sean Waters material. http://www.watersmindworks.com/ Not sure if it will give you what you are looking for but it might get the wheels turning. |

Nice way to introduce yourself, Mr. Scot. I love it when I guy who just joined today proceeds to explain the rules to us.
Thank you for setting us straight. We look forward to your further instruction. Brad- Glad you found what you needed in Inner Thoughts and that you understand where we're coming from. |

" So you make fun of Brad for a Misspelling which is forbidden in the "Magic Café Rules" by the way and your post adds absolutely no benefit to him, or any value to this thread. People absolutely love looking up a topic on a forum and then wading through "clever post" after "clever post" to find something of substance. That is the one thing that bugs me the most about forums is when a thread is to started in the hope of finding information and is ultimately filled with people making useless remarks. If you have a useful method for Brad or can recommend a resource then post something, but if not then don't. Simple as that. What was wrong with his original post anyways? He asked for advice on forcing a suit and commented that he had been using a method similar to one found in Bryn’s material. He asked specifically for people to PM him. How is he remotely giving anything away? If anything he plugged Safwan Papers which might get a bump in sales and support it’s creator. Or maybe we need go after people like Sean and Bryn who openly sale these secrets on the internet? I also broke the rules for being sarcastic and responding to your post and for that I apologize. To add a something to the discussion may also recommend Psycho by Daniel Madison. It has several psychological forces that are very clever. |

My post was of no benefit? I directed him to Inner Thoughts were he almost immediately got relevant responses.
But thanks again for explaining to us (on your very first day) how this forum should operate. Sorry if my posts don't seem constructive to you. Please let me know how you think I might go about being more helpful to the community. |

I happen to be one of those people too. Instead of you coming on here and pontificating to us, why don't you introduce yourself, be a little less sarcastic, and you will find that for the most part, we're not bad guys. Finally, the old rhetoric that always gets peddled on here about "Magicians helping Magicians" is probably true. However, Penny happens to be a forum for Mentalists. This does not suggest that we don't help each other, rather, we do, down in Inner thoughts where the OP was first directed to.

Quote: I understand that you might not like it but your telling someone to not to post links to other people’s works when the creators of those works post links to their stuff in the open forums all the time. Even one’s like “Latest and Greatest” which is probably the most visible forum there is. You act like no one but 50+ post people should be able to see them yet it appears that the creators disagree because I see them talking about their works all over the place.
On 2013-12-13 14:20, innercirclewannabe wrote: If you don’t like links to literature giving away secrets being talked about on open forums then you probably need to take that up with the authors and not random posters who are just looking for some help. The rules are that you don’t reveal secrets on the open forum. OP didn’t do that, and Mastermindreader posted a sarcastic remark and told him to go somewhere else. and by the way.. Mastermindreader.. are you trying to claim you helped him because you sent him somewhere else that he was planning on going anyways,.. where someone may or may not have given him what he was looking for? How do you know that it wasn’t a PM that came from this thread that he was talking about? We sure are being generous to ourselves aren’t we? Yes I responded to a sarcastic remark with my own sarcastic remark. I am sorry for doing that. But am I being vilified for being sarcastic? Do you really think that makes sense? I may have just signed up today but I have made a strong effort to share my knowledge and help others that I can. My post number may not be as big as yours but I am not an amateur just starting out either. I will probably have questions of my own that I will ask, and would hope that instead of sarcastic remarks, I get helpful responses with actual substance. Just like I have been trying to do for others all day today. I have accepted that forums are full of trolls and egos so big they could sink the world, and honestly the Café is much better than a lot of forums I have visited where you have to wade through literally pages of crap before finding anything worth reading. This thread escalated fast and I really had no intention on getting into a debate. Sorry, I responded to a sarcastic remark with my own sarcastic remark. This is my first day so I obviously what I say shouldn’t hold much weight. I bow out of this discussion, wish you all the best, and will go see if I can find a ladder. |

It's fine guys. Someone PM'd a great suggestion and it's exactly what I am looking for. We can put this thread to rest now.

No chance Brad. We all like a fight too much.
In all seriousness though, it's the chip chip chipping away at the art from, apparently, within which rightly irks so many. Secrets are Just harder and harder to keep. Humility and discretion go a long way here, rather than quickfire attempts to show off a knowledge base. Still, What do I know?

RScot-
Sorry you think I don't contribute much to the forum. But, unlike yourself, I'm just a beginner and don't really have much else of substance to offer. (BTW- in your rush to reach 50 posts in one day, note that only substantive posts will count.) |

Considering that mastermindreader just published in hardback what is likely the greatest introductory work to mentalism ever written, you'd think he'd get more respect. Heck, if he slapped me in the face and told me my show was awful I'd receive it as a kindness.
I didn't find Bob's suite/suit remark offensive, probably because offense wasn't intended. He made a good point about protecting methods. Brad did the right thing asking for PM's because he was concerned about exposure. There are usually guys who respond out in the open even if you ask for PM's though, hence, "Penny" is an unsafe place to ask most questions. When I was new here I aggravated a few guys on the first day; I hadn't gotten used to the vibe here and I felt defensive. I got quiet for a few days and found my sea-legs. When in a new environment, silence never hurts.
