Despite the edits in the demo, I decided to impulse buy this new torn-and-restored bill from Menny Lindenfeld and P3 while it's only $5.00. After viewing the download -- but not making up the gimmick -- I'm mixed. First, there is a gimmick, which takes a couple of minutes to make, and, for the most part, each gimmick can only be used once. (I say "for the most part" because there's an alternate handling that allows you to reuse the gimmick, but I don't like it -- you have to forgo the visual rip of the bill.) Once used, the gimmick can be spent, so you're not out any money. And yes, the bill can be "borrowed"... but you know the drill (and will likely have a lot better ways to deal with that than the one here.) I have two issues. The first is with the download, which, aside from repeating one section, doesn't really have any performance footage on other than what you see on the trailer. There's no performance to audience, and all the performance is kind of a cut up. I'm not sure the edits conceal anything more than a moment or two of fiddly handling -- but I would like to see that handling performed live. The second issue is that one unique thing about this effect is that no thumb tip is employed. But I'm not sure the effect wouldn't be stronger with a TT used at one point. I'd have it try it both ways and see. |

Is this similar to Larry Anderson's, Baffling Bucks routine from those ol' Jaw Droppers videos?
With Baffling Bucks a bill is cut in half. The two halves are then miraculously unfolded revealing each to be single bills themselves. Yes the Baffling Bucks effect is quite a fooler and yes those Jaw Dropper videos are still available but now in DVD format. You will just have to add them to your wish list.
How many magicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Regardless, for magicians darkness is a time for d'lite.
