Hi all ---
I am new here--I hope this is the proper place for this post. I am looking for a recommendation for a good nail/thumb writer specifically for close-up effects. The quality of the writing is not as important as the fact that it (1) not be seen and (2) easily pops on/off. Am I asking too much? Thanks in advance, Brian |

Why do you need one then?

If the qualityof the writing isn't important, then dip your finger or thumb in ink instead..
or develop a quill-writer...

If you don't care about the writing quality, simply stick a piece of lead under your nail with invisible tape. it is hardly noticable and can quickly be dumped. I often use this method when I do not carry a nail writer

Over the last 10 + years, I have tried virtually every version available, including a couple I have made myself, and have only one piece of advice: Pick one -- any one -- give it a good workout under fire and then try another, even if you like the first. Over time -- it could take a couple of years of going back and forth -- you will settle on one or two that you trust. Have fun.

Gentlemen,
Could we try to be a bit more cryptic when discussing this. The heading alone leads the unitiated to secrets we want hidden! And to describe details... Can we NOT use words that give the whole farm away? I mean I need this for my livelyhood. Swami Gimmick is always a good alternative term. Thanks, Docc |

Interestingly, this topic was moved to this location by the Café.

A lot of these problems could be resolved if we could just have a relevant sticky topic returned to the top of this forum.

Thanks to all for the advice. Especially those that suggested making my own, I think I will try this first.
As I'm new to the Café, I apologize for not being more cryptic in the heading--many good points were raised and I will see if there is a way I can edit the subject. For what it's worth, a person outside the magic community searching the terms in the subject line would get far more revealing information (especially through Google images) before they got a hit on this post. As I said, though, I'm new to the Café, but not to magic--although I am new to mentalism (I'm a card guy). And to clarify the effect that I'm working on, it's a long written and specific prediction that can be made before the effect, only one part at the very end requires the "Swami Gimmick" and it will only require me to write a card name such as "4D", "KD", etc. So, I'll try making one myself and see how it goes. Thanks again! Kindly, Brian |
