Just saw an interesting category on Jeopardy. It had to do with famous magicians. One was which magician had his introductory TV show hosted by Leonardo De Caprio. Instant answer of David Blaine. One asked about Youtube video showing a Mindfreak walking on water and they got it quickly with Criss Angel. Another question was about a magic duo and they got Penn & teller.

Now they asked about a famous Kuda Bux who was able to do something amazing while driving. First one guessed he drove backwards then next one said he drove with his feet. The last guy guess he was blindfolded for the correct answer. So I'm not sure if he knew it or they just allowed him a smaller range to guess.

Finally, they talked about a magician who has 52 Assistants and showed clips of him tossing cards at a watermelon. Silence. No one had an answer. He had to be told to them: Ricky Jay.

I don't know what it proves, but it seems to show how little the public actually knows of us. Amazing what TV appearances can do for you.

Great write up. Thanks.

Can you imagine how they would have done if they had to answer questions concerning Thurston, Houdini, Blackstone, Dante, Fox, Sydinni, Wilson or Vernon? Just stand there and look blank and say "Who?"
"Now here's the man with the 25 cent hands, that two bit magician..."

I agree on everyone, but Houdini. Houdini has been used on several Jeopardy questions. As a matter of fact, whenever I see a game show that has a magic or magician question I know that about 75% of the time the answer will be Houdini. Second closes answer is David Copperfield.

I saw that episode, as I recall none of them got the blindfold question correct. Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly.

But I definately remember the Ricky Jay one. It was the last question (or answer) in the category so theoretically it's the most difficult. When I heard the clue I thought it would be a longshot for someone to get it, but then they threw in the video clip I had hopes that someone might come through. But no dice. It's kind of sad that no one knew considering the fact that not only is Ricky is so skillfull, but that he's also had quite a bit of exposure as an actor on film and TV. When no one got it the first thing I thought was "that sucks". The second thing I thought was "I hope Ricky isn't watching this" lol

Yes, as I stated above, they eventually got that Kuda Bux drove blindfolded only after the first two guessed incorrectly what special skill he showed. They weren't guessing his name, but just what special skill he showed when driving a car.

As Ricky has also been in a lot of mainstream movies I would have thought someone could've put things together and nailed it.
