Just thought I'd share this with all y'all.
2 days ago I did a Christmas party at a realtor's office for all the staff's kids. I use Axtell's "clapometer" as a warm-up, but as I was getting set up, an idea hit me. I stuffed as much candy, mini-slinkies, bubble-bottle-necklaces, rings, wands, stamps, mini-kaleidoscopes as I could fit into the prop (which was ALOT by the way) and I turned it into a running number. 3 times throught the show I challenged the kids to scream the needle to the '10' and 3 time they failed. I went through the last trick, produced the "THE END" silk and thanked them, and sure enough...I got a chorus of "Wait!! What about the thing??" (the thing being the clapometer) so I agreed to try once more, and this time they got it to 10, and when the clapometer flew open, all the goodies went everywhere piñata-style. BIG HIT! I tried this again at a birthday party today, and it went over HUGE.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

That is a pretty cool idea. Did the kids go crazy grabbing the stuff? The only downside I could see is the trampling and fighting that usually accompanies a piñata.
I really like the idea. The "running gag" element of it keeps the enthusiasm high and the audience engaged.

I have always thought that was a silly prop, but that sounds like a great way of using it. A big improvement on the standard shout for the sake of shouting bit.

Definitely not a silly prop. I try to use it for every show. The kids go nuts!!! For my Christmas show I told the kids if they get to 10 we can get Santa to come and give out presents. I also completely decorated the machine to scream Christmas. Tinsel, red slinky, bells, microphone had Rudolph nose... Looked great and ended the show with tons of energy.
