Bancheck's psychokinetic time is in my opinion the best impromptu effect possible.
The spectators watch movesd to the time they choose! What could be simpler and more direct. it's their watch, they choose the time. Dusty aka Max Gordon

I second the suggested PK Time.
It is absolutely great! Carrying with you a NW and a small pad of paper doesn't hurt! You should also consider a Center Tear routine. I can recommend Richard Osterlind's Perfected Center Tear. In my opinion, that's the best CT on the market. Sven

I agree with Sven on the center tear routine. I also second the "best CT on the market" statement. Once proficient at the tear and handling, this can go anywhere. I love the methodology Richard has put into its creation.
I would also add the study of the other great peeks such as Millard Longman's "Acidus Novus" peek. Best of luck, John E. |

Equivoque. When done correctly, this can kill. And you need bring nothing to the party at all.
Haunted Key. When done in the volunteer's hand, it is as close to real magick as you can get, IMHO. And all you need is an old skeleton key (or, as they are really called, a mortice key). Pendulum effects. Chevreault really gave us a goodie with this one. Pure power of suggestion and you touch nothing. the volunteer can even use her own necklace! David Hoy's "The Bold Book Test," from "The Bold And Subtle Miracles of Dr. Faust. Borrow a paperback and rock on, brother! The CT. Take a look at Thrice Drawn Circle (Invocation, sometime in 1989), which I have also put online in here, somewhere, is a good presentation (at least McBride thinks so!) and gives you a reason for drawing circles on the little piece of paper. A good 1 ahead routine can also be very startling, if done well. Cards are pretty well adapted to this. Hope this helps! Happy New Year! Lee Darrow, C.Ht. http://www.leedarrow.com

I've found that a good solid presentation of the classic "Do As I Do" card effect can really kill as a mentalism effect. I perform it with the participant slowly and softly, and talk about synchronicity and the way that two minds can sort of become entwined when they focus on a common ritual.
Even if you're the sort of mentalist that usually steers clear of playing cards, it's a nice clean effect since you can do it with an unprepared borrowed deck, and there are no "magician-y" looking moves in the handling. |

Haunted Key, PK Subtleties is full of good (very good) ideas, CT (I'm going to prove a combination of Osterlind and Lesley methods, I think it's going to be great), and, maybe, PK Touches...
Happy New Year! AK
People waste 50% of their mind power. I'm a genius, I waste 100%.

OK, brand new impromptu think a card, no deck of cards. Just a prediction and you litterally think of any card!

Nice idea, Dr. Zodiac...how about a mental "STOP" to go along with the effect...
One could mime dealing cards face down and calling them off...when the spectator says, "STOP", the mentalist says...I was just dealing the 6 of clubs...what card were you thinking? By the way...HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!!!!! John E. |

If you grabbed the dictionary off the shelf, and then went into a next room as if to write your prediction in the dictionary, it could seem impromptu! Also, wouldn't Paul Harris' One and Only fit the criteria? |
