Yes I am definitely looking forward to the DVD! I've been holding off on the moving holes plot for a while, this might be my first venture into it. Also looking forward to your new book. I have your VIP and the reactions I'm getting on that trick is absolutely insane!

Question for you guy and gals.
Can you remove the holes on the card and move it to another card, as in the video on MVD("Crazy King" do a search on this)? Is this the "Holy Terror" effect or is this a completely different effect? if it is different can some name it and point me to a source to learn it. thanks edh

The Holey Terror plot is a hole matrix effect on a signed card. A hole is punched at each corner. They are each moved in a visual manner one by one to the same corner. The card is returned to the spectator with signature in place. With Impromptu Terror a hole is punched at each end of a signed card. One hole is then moved visibly to the other end. Now the card is signed on the back so it is signed on both sides. One of the holes is removed from the signed card and put onto a different card. Finally the hole is moved back to the original card and both cards are given out. The routine is totally impromptu.

Hey everybody, with respect to Mr. Mike Powers, I would love to see the Holey Terror 2 effect. I ve seen Paul Wilson.s 'Unholey Gathering' and spoke to him personally commenting on his effect (real great guy!!!) Anybody whom may be interested might want to check out Menny Lindenfield's 'HOLLOW' card effect. I've used this effect may times with devestating reactions - EVERYTIME! Yes - the (chosen) card can be signed and the 'hole' JUMPS from one card to another in the most visual way. I'm sure there are many websites that carry this effect but Penguin Magic has a very good tutorial video that IS INCLUDED as a download FOR FREE on there website (when the effect is purchased of course.) I highly recommend anybody whose interested in a 'traveling hole on playing card'effect to check this one out - nuff' sed.

One feature of Holey Terror that the other moving hole methods lack is that when the last hole moves, the card is not switched. It IS the signed card. The methods that use "trap doors" all suffer from the need to switch the gaff for the signed card at a very awkward moment. Everyone is waiting to see if the card on which the holes moved is the signed card. The heat is really on. And a top change or any move where the card is placed back on the deck weakens the effect IMHO.

I'll definitely post here when the DVD is out. I'll send one to Steve for review too. Right now I'm getting ready for a short lecture tour in Canada and the CAM convention. After that, I'll be trying to finish my book (really!). Hopefully I can integrate a video project or two in there.
Stay tuned! Mike

Mike:
I would love to have a coffee with you or something at CAM. I'll be attending too. I'll be looking out for you.. hopefully we'll run into each other at some point in time. As for Holey Terror II... I can attest to how great it is. After seeing it I became interested in magic, I saw this demonstrated and bought it on the spot. I didn't realize at the time that it would be way beyond what I was capable of at the time. I don't perform it much anymore... but I still love seeing it when I can. It's beautiful. David. |

It's really hard to top H.T. 2 for an effect that looks like PURE magic! I too will be looking forward to this DVD, Mike! Please keep me updated!

All this sounds incredible. I am very interested in the dvd. But what was the effect of the FIRST Holy Terror?

Holey Terror (I) came out in the early 1980's. I think it was 1982. The plot is matrix with holes in a card that is signed on the face. A hole is punched in each corner. Then the holes are moved visibly, one by one, to one corner. Finally the card is given out, still signed! The original used two decks, one red and one blue. Holey Terror II is much better. It uses only one deck.
I am finishing work on a large book right now. I hope to have it to the printer by December. It's a large format (8.5x11) hardback with around 220 pages - 55 items. Once this project is on ice, I will do the moving hole dvd - really! The DVD will have Holey Terror II, Impromptu Terror, a hole matrix with business cards and one other moving hole item. It will also have a cool bonus effect using a card with holes and a rubber band. I haven't added any of the moving hole effects to the website since the DVD should come out one of these days. It seems like "vaporware" since I've been intending to do it for quite some time, but it will come out. Mike

Did anyone have a practical, close-up moving hole before Alex Elmsley?
Just wondering where it all started. |

So why was there 2 decks? Was it for the holes to stand out against the other colour's back?

Sorry for the "vaporware" feel of this elusive DVD. I hope to get on it this fall after some other projects are in the can.

When you run a company like "Electro-Porn" vaporware is a good thing.
My boots still fill with sweat at the threat (thought) of Mike's "Truly Holey Terror." Lasting impression? You bet-- like a lifetime prescription for shock therapy. Mike: How's Norm? :0) |

I bought Holey Terror 2 from Her Morrissey in the early 90's after a demo. I thought it was a great trick and loved the fact you could leave the spectator a souvenir in its magically altered state. Killer.
I had one problem , the cards that came with it were a slightly lighter blue than most blue back bikes. It was evident that these were stranger cards. Has this problem been corrected? Great trick, Mike, can't wait for the impromptu version. Fish. |
