Getting back on track...
90%+ certain now that it's what we discussed via PM. See the reference below to Roth's coin's across. It's an interesting handling, but some cojones needed. Not likely something for me as I mainly perform for family and friends and as such they're both a bit more skeptical, and have more of a "familiar relationship" than a typical audience which (in my view) would make some of the steps with the spectator handling the coins much riskier. Link to the thread in latest and greatest: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=218&28 Link to product description at Murphy's Magic: https://www.murphysmagic.com/Product.aspx?id=52248 Excerpts from the Murphy's link: "Many magicians have taken Garrett's workshop or private lesson on David Roth's Coins Across. Garrett touches on every phase of this classic effect. His complete Coins Across workshop is available here for the first time ever. " "Gimmick and small, black, silicon change coin purse included." I can see myself using aspects of that presentation. Kainoa Harbottle has a four coin vanish/reproduction on his Penguin Lecture. It is called "Imaginary Holding Coins." He was strongly influenced by this trick of Garret's. You should check it out. It is easy to learn and perform. |

Any chance this would come in dollar or half dollar size?

Oh I thought this might be some kind of new gaff. It's just a [ but different handling and routining I guess.

I have this effect and it is really good. Not only does he teach Imagination Coins, but he also teaches a few other routines, such as coins across and jump.
As pointed out earlier, this uses a commonly used gaff coin, not a new gaff. That means it is readily available in different denominations. I personally really like the quarter. I don't think it makes any difference what sort of setting it is, because this is really a "gather around close" sort of an effect and the fact that it uses regular every day quarters in IMO, is a BIG plus. I personally don't use anything but ordinary looking coins. I generally don't do coins on stage. I think that no matter how big, they just aren't big enough for stage. So, if coins are really more of a close up thing, why not use the most ordinary looking coins? I sometimes use half dollars, but I really prefer quarters these days. I have only performed this a few times as it is new to me, and while it hasn't happened YET with this routine (it has certainly happened with other routines), whenever magic happens in a spectator's hands, there is always the chance that something could go wrong. He spends quite a lot of time talking about audience management leading into the effect, but I think it would be good to hear a little bit about what to do if something goes wrong. What if they discover the gaff? After all, they are picking it up and handing it to you. I would be interested in other people's ideas on this. What do you say if they discover the gaff? I generally say "How did that get in there?" give people a little wink, and replace it with a regular coin. I then am ready with a follow up effect that doesn't use any gaffed coins. I think a perfect follow up to this would be Greg Wilson's coins across that uses regular un-gaffed quarters. Any other thoughts? KJ |

BTW, Dave Williamson also has some really good coins across type routines. One really good one is on his Penguin live lecture. He does use larger coins.

One more thought on this: A gaff of this sort costs around $30. This entire effect cost $40. That means that the add-on cost for the entire DVD instructions was only 10! This is some really good stuff for only ten bucks.

Inigmntoya, in an earlier post you dared us to open a link. Chrome caught it and stopped it. It is malware. I hope that you did not know that, as it would infect our PC's. Not everyone would have software that would block it.

Dduane... Not to worry... that is what that link is for, testing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EICAR_test_file It doesn't infect anything. It only tests your ability to detect malicious problems. |
