Forgot a couple:
I worked as a shipping clerk in a pre-amp company. I got paid one summer to build a kiln. I worked as a stock clerk at J.C. Penneys. Curious to hear what jobs the rest of you have had. There must be some good ones. |

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king. Oh no wait, that was Frank Sinatra.

My first job out of high school was making waterbed frames.

Good one Magnus.
Just remembered another. ***, I've had a lot of jobs: I once worked in a tire store putting tires on and off their rims. That was actually pretty cool. |

On the opposite end of the scale, at 16, my first job was wrapping mail in a small bank in Washington, D.C. I remained in the banking field for 44 years, until retirement.

I was a roustabout for a year. I got to drive a company truck, and clean and fix almost anything to do with oil production. Except down-hole stuff, of course, as that requires a rig and a crew. Learned a lot about drinking that year

Slide, that's amazing! I've earned a living as a musician & magician all my life, except for a short spell as a cook (about 2 months), and as a house painter (painting exactly one house, inside and out). And of course the 8 months I spent completely homeless on the streets of NYC!

I also had a job as a shipping clerk, we sold pre-amps and digital delays.
For the past 28 years I've worked for the City of Eugene. Started out at a Rose Garden, then on the hortaculture crew, and the last 15 years as a pool operator, taking care of the city's swimming pools. The only other jobs was as a securiety guard and worked at the local race track. 2 more years to get to that magical 30 years! Bob. |

Nice list Slide. I could list about as many myself.
Years ago I changed jobs every time the wind blew. I was born on a farm picking cotton and milking cows so I had nowhere but up to go. I can remember running a chain saw cutting wood for $50.00 a week. Then I got me a job wearing a tie working in a grocery store for $1.65 per hour. I felt like a big wheel. I've owned several businesses over my lifetime. Always loved a challenge. Tom

Slide, What kind of construction work did you do?
I got a contract one time to build Jim Walter homes. I had never built a home in my life. I got some friends that sort of knew what to do to help finish the first one. But for some reason they never called me again. One of the better jobs came later, selling vacuums cleaners. lol But I can't complain because from there I moved to selling insurance and made the million dollar club in the 80's. Tom

I used to design wrapping paper for funeral gifts.
I was a professional gambler, working the nursing home circuit. For an entire day, I was in charge of the keys to the flagpole. I directed new employees on the fundamental ins 'n outs of a grill stretcher. I taught spiders how to bark. The folks at Rosetta Stone bought my formula. I've already spent the money. I de-tassled corn that had already been de-tassled. One of my shortest jobs was to dump my grandpa's fishing worms in the lake. I am currently a mystery shopper, but nobody knows... nobody. I used to add the air to the top of potato chip bags. I secretly encode the song "Greensleeves" on all CDs that are in sleeves that are green. I made wheelchairs for legless frogs living behind French restaurants.
