Had one of these about 30 years ago, wonder what happened to it. It always played well.

I like your comments about how to modify the trick - I guess it would be against fire codes to include real matches and a real matchbox, but that seems like it would be a much better way to go. Or, get a box of toothpicks if you want to pull out a toothpick. Either way, pulling a toothpick out of a box of matches seems odd.
Is there any guarantee or even a guess on how long the gimmick will last? This looks great in the video, not sure it would look so good after several months of performing it numerous times a night. The more I think about it - the more I like a box of toothpicks. If you're going to leave the match / toothpick with the spectator (not that you need to do this, but I always like leaving something - preferably with contact info, but something is better than nothing), while they could injure themselves with either one, I like leaving a toothpick better and it would cause no issues with any sort of fire code. Thanks, Bart |

I'm excited that this is on it's way to me. Great effect, and I love your videos Rick! Great personality that stands up in front of a camera.

I always look forward to your videos...always enjoyable, always puts a smile on my face, and always seems genuine, in spite of being tied to Penguin purse strings. Ha, ha,...I take it that you don't do kids shows. Are you still doing review shows ala Wizard Product Review? (another review video I look forward to each week) Wish you would continue, if you aren't...Ummm, maybe Murphy's could use your talents...

I bought a thinner one similar in price to this and it was complete junk. The gaff was clearly visible and it left empty space in the matchbox. It was an import. I don't remember who made the original but the price and the Chinese dragon on the matchbox that comes with this one gives me an idea where it's made. Is this different than this? http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S13697 |

We stopped the review shows because people seemed to be responding better to the one-on-one product overview/promo/tip videos. But I suppose it might continue in the future. And I know Murphy's has their own review show with Kyle that's going strong. |

I have owned a number of these myself over many years (including buying one of first IR), and Ricks gonzo performance still inspred me to order another one last night from Penguin.

Just dug my old one out of a drawer, its very tarnished but still works beautifuly, a bit of Brasso and it should be good as new. Its much thicker than the one in the video and is as Gabe has described, cant for the life of me remember who I bought it from, it might have been from Geoss at Repro 71.

Rick, the shelf-life of this is very long. I had one for years and performed it regularly. As long as the gimmick looks good when you get it, it'll continue to look good for a long time.
The quality control is important. We actually stopped carrying this item for years because the defect rate was not quite where we needed it, but I'm excited that it's back now, in its 5th generation of manufacturing. The machining process has been greatly improved and consistency is top-notch. If you have a problem with yours, please let me know asap. The only maintenance is possibly just some brasso once in a while. Like I said in a different thread, this is in my top 10 favorite tricks of all time. I've been loving it for over 15 years. |

I have one of the really good ones from Danny and was told not to use any brass cleaner that it messes up the workings. I not big on the siney ones. I like the ones that have that rough look. Just like IR. |
