Hi all ---

I'm a big fan of Martin Gardner's puzzle books. I've also read "Table Magic" and "Mathematics, Magic and Mystery" (both on Dover). I'm wondering if his other magic books (mostly out of print or hard to find) are worth checking out. These include "12 Tricks with a Borrowed Deck", "After the Dessert", "Favorite Mother Goose Rhymes (A forcing book)", "Cut the Cards", and "Over the Coffee Cups".

Has anyone checked these out?

My fear is that I will pay a hefty price for these and there will be a lot of overlap with the Dover publications.

Kindly,
Brian

Amazon used to carry a CD with I think 15 of the Scientific American compilation books. I think that's the one Slim is talking about. It was pretty reasonably priced.

They still do, and it's well worth having:

This looks like it may be the one for me, too. Any word on when it should be arriving? Did you order the "deluxe" or "standard"?

His essays are also a very good read. I really enjoyed reading his book "The Night Is Large: Collected Essays, 1938-1995"

It's a lot more than £20 but it is currently available on Amazon if you're still interested.

Bearing in mind the price of the individual volumes, this is still excellent value for a complete set that you can keep on your iPad.

Mathematics, Magic and Mystery
MARTIN GARDNER

Just come across this. A truly great find.
However, I am having difficulty getting my head around the

Chapter Three
From Gergonne To Gargantua
(the classic 27 card, 3 face-up piles trick)

The Walkers Method
It goes on to explain (in great detail) how to to get the thought of card to appear at any number from 1-27 on the final reveal ...
However, I just cannot get my head around this one.

Any help on this please?

I played around with this quite a bit. I can help if you want. Martin was a friend of mine. I'm old now.
