Barry Mitchell has a great routine using an aqua vase to change coal to diamonds. Just curious what other items you are using with the aqua vase or ideas you have for this prop.
I use it changing sugar packets to candy. Using sugar packets keeps the mess down by not using real sugar grains. Do you have any creative ideas?

Pardon my ignorance, but I have been in magic for 30+ years and I do not know what an "aqua vase" is. Might I know it by another name?

Starflower,
I was confused as well and did a quick google search and from what I can tell it is a lotta bowl shaped like a flower vase. Hope that helps. |

The Aqua Vase is more akin to a dove pan / coffee vase / switch can, than a lota bowl.
Also known as an Aqua Change Vase (the Aqua Lota Vase is a different prop... that is why there's confusion). Barry Mitchell popularized the prop by including the extra props to perform his "Mother of All Diamonds" routine. - Donald

There are a couple effects of the same name, one is more of a lotta bowl. The other is what we are talking about here, you can see it on the site below. It comes in blue and red too.
http://themagicwarehouse.com/cgi-bin/fin......A%20VASE I use mine in my mis made flag routine, I have a wood bowl filled with red, white and blue confetti. I ask several kids to take a pinch and sprinkle it in the goblet, that is the vase. The confetti turns into silks, then I go about the routine. |

And I bet none of the kiddies ask about that pesky tin can. It wouldn't work in this area; the kids would be all over it with loud and embarrassing "suggestions." However, it is fortunate that there are other methods of accomplishing the same thing with a transparent zip-lock bag, or a newspaper and a carton of milk, etc. I'm just proofreading Spellbinder's "Silk Transformations" e-Book for the Dollar Store Magic section and I came across several alternate solutions he included. Ask, if you're curious.

Jim, first you show the can empty, second. I have done this in 29 shows with no issues and third, it seems to me that every post of yours is pushing something on your web site.
Now , I mean nothing negative as I have ordered several downloads due to your post.s. The aqua vase works extremely well for my purpose. |

Haha! At times I think I am going to scream if I read one more post about "Whiz Kid Jimbo Johnny" or "Whiz Kid Eddie Cantor". Of course, the easy solution is simply to pass over Jim's posts. But Jim makes some interesting posts, too, so I guess ya take the good with the annoying.

No one has ever questioned the can when I use it. Other ideas for this prop?

Jay, as I posted earlier. There are two products with the same name, but are very different . The one we are discussing here is not the lotta version. It's more like the dove pan production.
Jim Gerrish has a lot to offer, just wish he would tone down the sales pitch. |

The original poster is talking about a prop called an "Aqua Change Vase", because he referred to Barry Mitchell's Mother of All Diamonds Trick, which comes with that prop. The red and blue version is made by Uday, I think.
There is also a prop called an "Aqua Lota Vase", which is a version of the Lota bowl. The silver version is made by Ickle Pickle. If you type "Aqua Vase Magic Trick" into google, you get hits for both props. They are different props, but some magic dealers have labeled an "Aqua Change Vase" as an "Aqua Vase", and some magic dealers have labeled an "Aqua Lota Vase" as an "Aqua Vase". That is why there is confusion on google. However, the original poster didn't have confusion, because he clarified he was referring to the prop supplied by Barry Mitchell with MOAD. This was explained earlier, but some don't seem to be reading posts. - Donald

Here is another demo using water but forget the water. My question was about ideas for other uses not including any liquid. I have the Barry Mitchell Mother of all diamonds. He also uses gold nuggets in an effect as well. Here is another basic demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPy1It3PdaE I just do not like using any liquids in someones living room. Accidents can and do happen and I don't care if it is water. No liquids means no spills. You can be the greatest magician in the world and spill something in someones homes. I am not going to take chances. Maybe outdoors but not inside a house. You can go an easy cut and restore rope, Paper to confetti, torn and restored cards, color changing silks, and there are many other basic ideas. Just think outside the box. For the price of the aqua vase it is really a neat changing device and most people have never seen this in a show.

You could also perform a version of "Beads of Prussia" with an Aqua Change Vase. Loose beads go in, and come out joined together as a necklace.

A Bible lesson with this can be done by putting stickers or painting the red can with FLAMES and calling it a furnace. You could then teach the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace of King Nebuchadnezzar.
It could also be used to show Moses travel from Egypt as a rich kid, to the "Burning Bush" and then 40 years of high pressure living in the desert alone, to the diamond God had prepared to lead the children out of Egypt. Another possibility for a more mature audience, adults or seniors, would be to show how God takes us and over our life with Him, He uses the pressures and trials of our lives to mold us into His image through faith and provision. I would also value anyone else's Scriptural illustrations with this very fun prop. |
