Are you in favor of abolishing the EPA? Note that the same folks what to do away with all public schools, the post office, and virtually anything that can be privatized and run by private corporations- WITHOUT government intereference or regulation.
Again- how did that sort of unregulated corporatism work out in the age of the robber barons? It's supposed to be government of the people, by the people and for the people. And corporations are NOT people. |

Is that what I said?
When the EPA can issue edicts and be used as a sword to eviscerate the industries a political belief system disagrees with they have too much power. We have a republican president to thank for the EPA if I am not wrong. Which would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that stupidity know no partisan boundaries.

Or it may prove that Republicans were once more socially conscious and "conservative" than they are now. That is, conservative in the Teddy Roosevelt sense of prudently planning for the future, including protecting our natural resources. The modern brand of conservatism is a weird mix between economic libertarianism and social oppression. In an age of 180-day "emergency" budget extensions, negotiated hours before fiscal "cliffs" kick in, there is no consideration for long-range planning or the greater good of the majority. True "conservative" thinking should, by definition, give us 500 year time horizons. Instead we get myopic quarterly profit statements and permanent election cycles.

Well said, Maxfield.
FDR's statement in 1938 is as true today as it was then: Quote: "Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people. The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That, in its essence, is fascism — ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any other controlling private power. The second truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if its business system does not provide employment and produce and distribute goods in such a way as to sustain an acceptable standard of living. Both lessons hit home. Among us today a concentration of private power without equal in history is growing." FDR 1938 |

We can all agree on one thing, which is, that it is beyond doubt, that no government in the world have any empirical scientific evidence of human CO2 as a causation of global warming.

Whenever a true PROVEN crisis arises- bipartisan support surfaces, and of course this is not the case with Global Warming. For example- bi-partisan support of authorization to attack Iraq who created a safe haven for terrorists and who had biological labs that could produce chemical weapons within weeks. Not to mention the Iraq conveys that moved their archived chemical weapons to Syria knowing what was coming to them. Indisputable evidence which gained bi-partisan support. Does this mean we should not to take any steps towards preserving a healthier atmosphere- of course it doesn't. Anything we can do to help reduce toxins released into the atmosphere should be studied. But those steps should not include ridiculous proposals such as "purchasing" carbon credits etc... RNK

I think you missed the point.
I agree with tommy's assertion that the CO2 exhaled by humans does not contribute to AGW. Read up on emissions trading a bit before you call it ridiculous. It's obvious, from your reference to credit purchasing, that you aren't at all clear about how it works. One of the key factors in cap and trade, is that the cap is lowered over time, thus forcing an overall reduction in carbon emissions. |

Yes Bob- I do believe you are correct- I did miss his point. Sorry about that. But part of my post I still feel holds true:
"Whenever a true PROVEN crisis arises- bipartisan support surfaces, and of course this is not the case with Global Warming." If GW was accurate and true- something would have been done by now.

No, nothing is being done by now because doing anything would seriously cut into corporate profits- hence the disinformation campaign from the right, who have single-handedly made this into a political issue, despite the fact that most of the rest of the industrialized world accepts the world-wide scientific consensus that AGW is real.

The current cap-and-trade proposals are modeled on the earlier ones that slashed sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, thereby greatly reducing acid rain generated by the U.S.A. It was huge success, was signed into law by a Republican president (George H.W. Bush) in 1990, and was implemented through rules written by that bogeyman agency, the EPA, which again was created under a Republican president. It was controversial at the time, but it was done anyway. If we do the same thing now regarding carbon dioxide emissions, it will not be novel or original, let alone "ridiculous" as you state, but it will be the right thing to do. The only question is whether the U.S.A. is still capable of doing the right thing. I fear that we may have grown too uncaring, confrontational and divided, as evidenced by this thread.

Maxfield-
It's kind of fruitless to point out facts in this discussion. No one's mind will be changed. And THAT'S why nothing is being done to confront the very real problem of AGW. |

They destroyed 84% of the logging industry and crippled the economy of Oregon and Washington like no one had ever done before .... THEN ... Years later after Obama had doubled down on the issue (Liars Bluff)we find out that the Barred Owl was killing the Spotted Owl and Logging had NOTHING to do with it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

98% of climate magicians would make 98% of the people vanish if they could, leaving the plutocracy to inherit the planet.

And that's exactly why the plutocracy would like climate scientists to disappear.

Thanks for the meaningless comment. The question has NEVER been whether or not there are natural heating and cooling cycles. The issue whether that man-made carbon emissions have a direct effect on otherwise natural climate change. And the global scientific consensus says that they do.

It's because GW is NOT a national crisis, and as I stated before, if it was a REAL threat something would have been done by now and it would be a bipartisan agreement as it always is when we face a TRUE REAL crisis.
