I think King is an excellent writer. His 11/22/63 is one of the best novels I've read in recent years.

As far as reading minds, I think of two examples, not of mind reading specifically; In "Superman Returns" Superman takes Lois up to the sky and ask her what she hears. She says "nothing," he responds; "I hear everything." Quite frankly, it was one of Brandon Routh's best moments They did something similar in "Dr. Who" where they're dealing with Pompeii, the Doctor states that he can't do anything to stop the volcano from exploding or evacuating the city because this is a "fixed event" and can't be changed. Donna gets mad at him saying he changes things all the time, HE'S the only one who gets to decide what is "fixed" and what isn't? And he snaps back; "Yes! Because I can see all of it every deviation, every change!" Turned out to be extra sad, not only could the Doctor not STOP Vesuvias from exploding... he had to MAKE it explode a kill most of Pompeii to stop a race of lava people from turning the Earth into a cinder so they can live on it. Just what he needed, more guilt.
