Hi everyone
Couldn't find a proper place to post this, as I'm new here. Thing is, I fell victim to a dishonest seller on e-bay who sells only two items: Ultragaff (Daniel Garcia and Wayne Houchin) and Ultimate Marked Deck (Red). Since both items are discontinued it's hard to find them in magic stores, so I went for e-bay. There's no need to explain how one, who takes special care of cards, would immediately spot at least 10 differences of the fake deck. I found couple of posts talking about similar issues (probabaly some of you have also heard about it) https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=......2&type=3 http://aethercards.com/discourse/alert-b......msg88898 So my questions are: 1) is there an agency, which can prove these decks are fake (ultimately, the real ones are printed at Bicycle division of USPCC - so some authorized affiliate perhaps?) 2) besides appealing to (1) is there a way to prove the decks are fake? 3) what can be done to the seller in order to at least return the money (he sells each at about 33 EUR per deck) Any help appreciated Regards Yakor |

Ebay has buyer protection program. Best bet would probably be to contact ellusionist since they're the ones who produced them. Most of the dishonest sellers on ebay tend to come from outside the United States so I would be careful from purchasing things from those sellers. Unfortunately there's very little if anything that you can do to stop this seller from selling these fake decks.
On a side note, are these cards completely unusable? Looks like that buyer has sold a lot of these and has received nothing but positive feedback. |

Thanks a lot for prompt response. First question is how can I prove to e-Bay that these are counterfeit? I believe this guy has had enough experience to find the ways around. Some clarifications in response to your comments: 1) The seller is jazzrena he is from UK. Perhaps, some of the MagicCafe residents have dealt with him? 2) He claims to have sold 500 pieces and indeed the feedback is positive, one negative about the delivery time 3) The gaffs are of little use because they are of slightly different color and quality (will be either sticky, or highlighted in the deck) 4) The marked deck doesn't even fan or evenly spread... what tricks can I do with this piece of ...?? I keep on wondering: how could those 500 buyers not notice the quality of stock????? It's 2-layers paper, so obviously different from ordinary Bicycle... Regards Yakor |

Have you tried contacting the seller?

Sure, that's his response
Hi, What are you talking about?! I know 100% that they are genuine decks! First of all, I bought them from closing down magic shop, secondly, I'm using them myself for several years and they look and handle EXACTLY as normal bicycle cards, and thirdly, I've sold more than 500 of them and not anyone (including professional magicians) was questioning their quality! Just check my feedback and see for yourself. Apart from few issues when decks arrived damaged in post or lost at all, I didn't had any problems with my customers. So I'm not sure what are you trying to pull out here? Regards, Renatas - jazzrena |

It is interesting that he received all positive feedback. There's just no way he could sell that many decks with the quality you've described and have not one single person complain. I could be wrong but it sounds like you just got unlucky, and maybe out of the stock that he bought from the magic shop a few were defective/counterfeit and that's the deck you received.

Good luck if you decide to complain, I have complained on several occasions to Ebay, not related to magic, and I found them to be totally disinterested.

Here is some info on a different seller which a buyers claims was selling fake ultragaffs and ultimate marked decks.
http://aethercards.com/discourse/alert-b......eangpow/ Also, just because he bought them from a magic shop doesn't mean they are legitimate. Many shops sell knockoffs. |

Hey guys
A small update. The seller became cooperative after I'd sent the articles mentioned here in the first post. He sounded truly surprised by himself. The full refund was granted immediately. So it was either a failed 'lucky strike at a lammer' or his supplier really started delivering the counterfeit. In any case we won't get to know it, 'cause after such incidents, the deal on e-bay gets turned down leaving no chance to post feedback on the seller - that is why (I have no other explanation) even if such cases had taken place in the past, they never got marked in the response history . One lesson for me: stay away from e-bay unless you get to test the seller in a personal discussion... Regards to everyone thanks for support Yakor |

I have read so much about the UMD deck that I'm dying to buy one.
But I don't want to buy a fake, knock-off version I want the real thing. Anybody know of a place that might have some in stock for for a semi-reasonable price? It looks like the UMD decks are still for sale on the original makers website: http://www.magicdream.fr/magie-carte-umd......l#80=906 It would cost about $75 USD including shipping, but I'm leery of ordering from France so I'd rather buy in the US. I've found one for sale here for $79.95: http://www.magictrickstore.com/ultimate-......477.html And there is a company selling apparently real UMD decks for $99.95 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Marked-De......ked+deck Are there any Magic Café members who may have a big stock of UMD's in your closet who may be wiling to part with one for less than $50? If so, please PM me. |

Will the person who sent me a PM about the UMD deck please contact me again.
I think I accidentally deleted your message, I don't see it in my In Box any more. :-( |

I am worried that I may have bought a fake Ultimate Marked Deck.
The cards feel a little "rough" on the edges and seem to have a strong ink smell, as if they were recently printed. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid after reading this thread. I bought the UMD deck here for $79.95 so it BETTER be real: http://www.magictrickstore.com/ultimate-......477.html The OP of this thread did not list the "10 things to look for" on a fake deck, so I would appreciate it if others could give me some tips as to how to determine if this deck is a real UMD deck or not. I just opened the deck at my office, I will go home and compare it to my other decks (including a legit UMD deck that I bought from a Café member) and I'd like to get tips for what to look for. I bought this deck before I bought the UMD from the Café member and I figured I'd like to have two of them since they are so hard to get these days. Thanks! |

Following up on my last post, after examining my new UMD deck and comparing it to the "old" UMD deck I purchased from a Café member, the new one feels a little different. I called the owner of the store where I bought it (http://www.magictrickstore.coml) and he said he purchased the last few cases of UMD decks that Murphy's Magic found in their warehouse about a year ago and he says they are definitely real. He offered me a full refund, no questions asked. So I wanted to make sure I posted his response here, sounds like a nice guy and he offered me a refund before I even asked for one. I am going to keep the new UMD deck, because even though it does not feel as "smooth" as my other UMD deck, it's pretty good and the seller swears it's legit. I just wish I had discovered the UMD a few years ago when you could still buy them at the regular retail price.

I have bought several items from them in the past and they are very legit. Pretty good prices too.

I did some more research on old threads in the Café and saw others complaining about their UMD cards sticking together, not fanning well and feeling "stiff" ... so apparently there were some quality control issues with the real UMD decks ... some decks were better than others. I'm keeping the "new" one I bought as a backup and will use the UMD I bought from the Café member as my main UMD deck. |

If you have ebay then you should have a paypal account that's the way to go, I have purchased something from ebay after 3 weeks of the seller not contacting me I called paypal & within a week I got my money back.

UPDATE: After repeatedly shuffling and playing with the second UMD deck that I received, it feels OK now. I rubbed the edges smooth and the more I use them, the less stiff and "sticky" they feel. The first UMD deck I got was better, but the second is fine after I "broke it in." I was just paranoid after reading the original post about fake UMD's.

Hey I was reading this and thought I'd check who I bought my ultragaff deck from. Was also Jazzrena on eBay. No problems with it whatsoever. No differences with colour. No fanning issues. If Jazzrena has any more and you're after them - don't be deterred. Found them pretty difficult to get hold of!

You guys are talking crazy talk me thinks.
Counterfeiting Umd is highly unlikely. I doubt it. Don't believe it. The UMD was not really meant for fanning anyway. Let's not start baseless rumors eh?
