Why are we paying attention to Yakor with 5 posts ?
Please. Let's move on.

And what does 5 posts have to do with anything? He may be new to the Café, but not necessarily new to magic, and even if that was the case, that doesn't mean his concern isn't valid. Quote:
You guys are talking crazy talk me thinks. And I would have to say your thinking is wrong. Don't believe it if you don't want to, but just about everything is being pirated/counterfeited these days. I could point you to a web site* where they're selling Penguin lectures for less than $2, The Extractor for $13 and change, STC for $11, etc. etc. etc. Do you think the UltraGaff decks they're selling at the same place are the only "real" products? If they can counterfeit those they can certainly counterfeit a UMD. BTW, I'm not just jumping in here out of the blue. I sold one of my UMDs to SeattleSteve (who posted above) when he was looking for one and was also concerned about getting the genuine article, so the issue certainly isn't just something made up by Yakor. ---- *No, I do not give them my business. I stumbled across it when searching for something. |

What is happening now borders on paranoia - it is HIGHLY unlikely anyone went to the troble of creating cardstock for copying UMD. I don't buy it. I don't beleive it.
There is a difference between Magivains helping Magicians... and a new poster who is an unknown starting a rumor that contains no genuine proof of forgery other than his perceptions. If this guy had owned an original UMD and could compare side by side - absolutely lets discuss and investigate. There is a line between helping Magicians and starting unfounded rumors to disparage a seller on Ebay or gain attention. I doubt there is much money in the effort it would take to create fake UMD's (I own aboyt 6 real ones and love 'em). What market is there for fake UMD's... please, the idea is a little ridiculous and I just don't beleive it to be factual. Sorry that's may take and I think all of us would do well to occasionally question these types of posts from a new user.

I have no knowledge of UMD copies, but my experience in the deck collecting world certainly lends credence to the existence of Ultra Gaff fakes. However, since I haven't compared anything side by side, I am just leaning towards caution when I choose to avoid overseas sellers of the Ultra Gaff deck. Your last line that I quoted seems appropriate considering that TweenHere+Nam has just joined the Café and has one post defending the Ebay seller. Hmmmmm...I say. |

In the case of the UMD, it, like the UltraGaff decks, can no longer be produced legitimately due to the USPCC's (relatively) new rules w/respect to the use of its back designs, jokers, and ace of spades. As you say above, you love your UMDs, so there's a demand in the market, one I'm certain the counterfeiters are more than willing to fill. If you think I'm making this up, I can PM you the link to the site I found with all that pirated and knock-off stuff. It's out there, and quite real. Now that doesn't prove that there are fake UMDs out there, but it's more than some dreamed up fantasy. |

Beleive me I know the whole story with the Ultimate Marked Decks - I was in touch woth the boys at Magic Dream in Paris and was one of the first people alerting Café members years ago to stock up beceuae of the USPCC rules ending their manufacture.
I'm still skeptical about fraudulent decks - QB's, wallets etc are higher ticket items that would be more attractive to knock off. A deck of $20 playing cards - I just don't think so. Also someone forging Bike decks might be inviting the legal muscle of USPCC. Anyway, your points are well taken and I am well aware of ripoff artists like James L Clark and China.

You have every right to be skeptical
I came across this thread through a Google search for the "Ultimate Marked Deck" and decided to risk buying from Jazzrena on the basis that for me at least, £20 is not a huge amount of money to put at risk, (although I fully understand that this might not be the case for everyone). I ordered yesterday afternoon and the item arrived this morning. It looks like a regular deck of bicycles but no marketing cards and only one Joker. There is an explanation card and "Extra Trick" card from "www.magicdream.fr" which I have no need for and "split" to check that it had a black middle layer - it did. There is no difference between the card stock of these and regular Bicycles both in terms of construction, finish. thickness or stiffness,(they have that typical Bicycle "linen" finish that looks identical even under a glass). Printing seems to be of the same quality as regular Bikes and I can see no more difference in the colour of the backs than the variation that one often sees between standard decks on very close inspection. They don't fan straight out of the box but this improves after a few faros, (and they spread just fine). Note that I have found this to be the case with other gaffed decks and these certainly fan way better than a pack of Cartooned that I know to be genuine, (now that takes me back). I believe the deck I have been sent to be genuine and IMHO the moderators should have taken action as soon as the potentially libelous accusation of dishonesty was posted. For the avoidance of any doubt I have absolutely no allegiance or connection with the seller in question and from my experience would recommend him if you want one of these decks at a reasonable price. |

Incidentally my earlier comments are only with respect to UMD. I can't comment on the UltraGaff decks being sold.

I too bought a UMD from ebay seller jazzrena this was in 2013,
I have now bought the UMD directly from MagicDream in France and can say these decks are NOT the same. The UMD bought from jazzrena is stiffer stock, strangely shiney and print on the backs have a slight bleed not sharp (I believe these to be printed elsewhere other than USPCC). They do not spread easily straight out the box they needed fanning powder to be useable. The box from jazzrena's UMD is a different size from any other US Playing Card Box I own (And I have a lot, old and new). It is shorter by 1mm in height and depth is 1mm wider. The UMD I got from MagicDream is top quality, spreads straight from the box. Clear and sharp printing. Box is the same as the normal boxes from US Playing Card Co. My Advice is Do Not Buy From jazzrena (who is still on ebay and has sold 2 of these in Jan of 2015) |

Tad, I bought mine from MagicDream and they don't spread. Other than that the quality is superb.
