All though you have to construct the gimmick as shin included something you can practice with before you make up your own gimmick for perfomance. Graham

Shin includes basically two cards along with something else you need, to which you can make your gimmicks with it. You can choose to use the two cards he provides, or you can use them just as practice. Like I mentioned, you really are free to make your gimmicks using ANY deck that you perform with. The one particular unit I opened had cards for a blue bicycle deck, but I assume other units may contain red. So if you're asking a question, then yes, you are given cards to practice with (but you're still required to MAKE the gimmick whether it's for practive or real).

And this is how much again? Without second guessing but judging by your very helpful review, Jeff_Mash, it would appear that this is another cheapskate product re: the materials and work required to provide at least one working gimmick. Think Rob Bromley.

Jeff,
1. do I understand right that after the spectator has picked a card, you have to get it back before he can sign it? 2. Is it possible to perform a let's say Ambitious (signed)card routine before going into Switch? |

If it were me personally, I probably would have manufacturered this for a $20.00 price point.....but since $30.00 isn't tooooo much higher, I guess I can see how it was a justified move. In my opinion, this is way better than 52 Shades, which not only required you to construct things, but you could only use that trick deck for that one effect. With The Switch, I can see how you can incorporate this into your regular deck, so that you can use it in conjuction with other effects.

1. do I understand right that after the spectator has picked a card, you have to get it back before he can sign it? Not necessarily. You can have them sign it first before you take it back and start to "do the magic", so to speak. You don't have to take it from them, then give it back, then take it again. Nothing like that. Again, the way it would work (and this is just one of many presentations you can do), is that you can ribbon spread the cards, have them pick one....they sign it, give it back to you, you proceed to make it vanish using whatever method you prefer.....and then the folded card which has been in plain view from before the trick began turns out to be their signed card. Not sure if cheapskate when you consider everybody else that provides a box method (magic prop vs clean switch) wants anywhere from $ 70 to $100.
Jeff, how much extra cost to make?
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

But to make this method, James?

I do not have the product so that was why I was asking about the extra cost. Is there something about the construction that makes it a custom made item?
Would be interesting to know how much more it would cost for a total pre-made gimmick. If it were $ 10 to $ 20 more than currently asked for I would not have a problem with it, especially since it seems that this will do as advertised and shown. Not sure who makes that call - creator and/or distributor?

I wouldn't be complaining about price if this really is a very workable and ultra visual switch method. I'm sorry, but who's the cheapskate?

Those are fair points, mate [James Adamson]. It seems to me that constructing and selling a card gimmick along with the ubiquitous DVD is standard practice these days, though, particularly for a product such as this.
Don't get me wrong, I'm one of those weird people who actually enjoys the construction/repair/replacement process. But in the case of a trick like this, if the materials really are as stated above, surely a gimmick should be bunged into the package, no? Am I mad? Anyway, I leave you to this trick, which I hope will play well for you. It looks great. Not for me at this point in time. |

If it's a gimmick that must be hand-made - and this appears to be just that - then it might take a long time to get enough units put together for an estimated release date. Probably didn't want to get into having to make hundreds or more gimmicks before releasing the effect. As opposed to a gimmick that is printed up by USPPC. Just my guess.

J-Mac, I'm pretty sure you're right. I know what the gaff is and what it takes to make it. Not really an issue to make one or two but I couldn't face making hundreds of them. I have no idea what Shin Lim includes in the package. When it arrives I'll be able to say definitely.

Hey guys.
Could the owners of the product clarify couple of things to me? 1) How difficult the "get ready" moment is? For instance if I'm going to perform this standing. 2) How fast the reset is? 3) Is it possible to switch the other objects like pieces of paper, business cards mb even coins? 4) How fast the clean up is? 5) Can you perform this sleeveless? |

Then shouldn't the price reflect the lack of gimmick?

It has endless applications. It can be done surrounded with no apparel requirements and with the spectators burning the card. The problem is you have to see it live. I understand people's reluctance to trust video. I suspect this will sell out at Blackpool and word of mouth will do the rest. |
