I received a parcel from my sister-in-law: 4½” × 4½” × 6¾”. Inside was a lot of packing material, and a dirty baseball.

It was a game ball from a game played on May 6, 1969, in Westchester (Los Angeles), CA.

My first no hitter.

Final score: Giants 16, Colts 0. (We were up 24 - 0, but the game was called (darkness, maybe?), so the score reverted to the last complete inning.)

I'd been looking for that ball for quite a while.

(The other baseball I want to find was autographed by Jim Lebfevre: it was my first year in Little League, and he autographed a baseball for each player in our league: about 800 balls. Mine read, "Dear Bill: Best Wishes, Jim Lefebvre". One of about 800, all hand-written. He probably couldn't throw for 8 months thereafter.)

Where did she find it?

My father had been living with my brother and her for a while; he recently moved to a senior home, and they have a lot of his belongings. My brother found it in one of the boxes and figured I'd like to have it.

He figured correctly.

I have so many vivid (and wonderful) memories of playing baseball as a kid.

Great story. Enjoy!
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.--Yeats

I was practically in tears.

I had been looking (off and on) for it for years.

Despite your not agreeing with my mathematics, I'm very happy for you.

I know that it means a lot to you.

I'm still upset after more than 30 years that my boy scout merit badge sash was thrown out sometime after I moved out.

I'll never get it back.
Jack Straw from Wichita, cut his buddy down
And dug for him a shallow grave, and laid his body down
Half a mile from Tucson, by the morning light
One man gone and another to go, my old buddy you're moving much too slow
We can share the women, we can share the wine

Thanks, Jack.

Sorry to hear about the sash. I think that my mom has mine.
