I just learned that there is a something called "New Modern Coin Magic" which is different than "Modern Coin Magic," which is the book I have...
Anyone know what the difference is? I'm wondering if I should pay for the newer, more expensive version... |

Here's a thread that discusses the differences between the two.

No contest. The second edition is a much better book. About 30% more material, including rudimentary versions of the Goshman toss retention, and other techniques that are considered modern today.

As well as the additional chapters, the larger format makes the hardback easier to read and work from.

Somewhere, I found a copy as a pdf, it has just the first part (the Dover version; up to p353). Unfortunately, the page numberings in the pdf do not correspond to that in the printed versions.
The file lists http://www.magicforall.com as the source, but this web doesn't seem to work anymore. Seems like there might also be a version on Lybrary.com

The point I was trying to make is that you can't get a book on DVD; any DVD set is going to be an interpretation of part of the book. But I'm so old that I learnt almost everything from books and feel distinctly lukewarm towards DVDs. Barry |

For your information, the Salina's DVD set does not contain the extra chapters in the "New Modern Coin Magic"
and is even missing some chapters from the original "Modern Coin Magic". I believe that the reason for the missing extra chapters from the "New Modern Coin Magic" is in part copyright, but I don't know why the Stanley Collins section are also missing. Or did I somehow miss these? Does anyone know? thanks; John

If you have the shorter version of the book then Ben's 4 DVD set will be helpful, same thing if you get the complete book, it will still be helpful. As Banzai says, the DVD set doesn't cover everything, but it does do a great job of mirroring the more important things, more so than not...Just as the shorter version does in regards to the complete version. It doesn't have everything in it, but it's got-a-plenty! Not to mention that it's still an awful lot cheaper than a lot of other collections. I'm just sayin', as someone that has the old book, the new book and Ben's 4 DVD Modern Coin Magic set. If I had either book with the DVD set, I'd feel pretty darn good and prepared. Where you miss out (at this point in time of greater access thru technology) is to only have the book(s), IMHO. *Also, you can reach directly out to Ben Salinas here on the Café or at his wonderful new blog site to get the DVD set from him, and usually at a great price. Always a great deal from a real good guy and magician. http://salinasmagic.blogspot.com
