I've been wrong plenty of times. Also, I wish I could edit some typos in my last post.

Being a professional is not about talk. It is about taking action. Management plays a strong role in several fields. Below are a couple of examples:
Money Management. You will have to make investments in purchasing the right props. I am glad they props are not cheap because I would have a lot of competition in my area. Time Management. Investing the right amount of time with practicing, rehearsing, marketing online and over the phone. Putting time in with the family you must take care. |

I have stayed out of this as most of you know my thoughts on this. There have been some very good comments made. Yes the props do not guarantee a great performance. Yes, small inexpensive props can be made into a reputation maker in the proper hands. USP is a very real thing when you are competing to make your living doing this. You need to set yourself apart from the pack whether it be higher quality props than the norm or outstanding, unique and entertaining routines.
I will add one thing into the mix that might be overlook. Classic in magic as that for a reason. They have served the test of time. Properly and professionally presented they will still entertain an audience as they have done for years. Do overlook them because they are old. David Copperfield and Penn and Teller have both resurrected many of the old classic with a new twists that make great, entertaining routines today. Remember to think as a layman not a magician. Magicians become jaded with older things but they need to look from the audience's viewpoint. Bottom line...Entertain. If you do it with props or unique ideas, it really doesn't matter. If using props that work every time, that you don't have to worry about breaking or working, lets you be more creative so be it. Thanks guys for your kind words and I respect both sides of the coin on this. Investments in anything have be individually analyzed to see if they fit your own needs; whether magic or anything else. Hi Mr Hughes,
I am not knocking your products or anyone elses. Nor am I knocking the use of props expensive or otherwise. What I don't agree with is thread: "Thanks Jimmy. Yes, I always get great reactions from Richard's products. His prices help keep cheap magicians around my area from purchasing the same item" Which sounds like by having expensive props somehow puts you above an act that does not. Phil |

Although it hasn't been said yet, there are some FT performers who can't afford expensive props (using all of their money for supporting their family, paying bills, etc.), and some who can. Likewise, there are some PT performers who can afford expensive props (they have extra disposable income), and some who can't.
And some PT performers are better than some FT performers, and vice versa. As I said above, it's about your personal preference for certain props (they might not even be interested in performing some flower magic), and also whether you can afford them. - Donald

In the case of Flito Flower it would be a great mistake to call Practical Magic's version cheap. It's a very well made item at a very reasonable price and looks great!
It's just a lot cheaper than Richard's version. Like Phil, I think no matter how well made Richard's version is it's not going to last as long or keep as clean as several of the practical ones. Also buying a more expensive version of exactly the same trick is hardly going to separate you from the competition. I think this argument only works if you are spending a bit extra to buy something unique. |

If I recall the other thread about the Flito problem, the problem was partly about the quality, but there was also a supply and demand problem (he couldn't always get them when he needed replacements... and he hadn't stocked up on spare copies).

Yes, I know I posted Botania videos, and not Flito videos.
Be sure to read the P.S. on my last post, because I came back to the Flito topic. - Donald

I will be reediting the videos so there is no music problem. When my videos were made, a television editor used music from the station to lay over the video. I assumed it was all common domain.
As I said, I will be reediting it all shortly. Richard

Thanks Richard. Your name should be in the dictionary underneath the word quality. You are my hero to why I have that line in my signature.
