Well, the best trick in the world is either a thumbtip cigarette vanish in a fist, or Copperfield flying. LOL

Actually, vanishing Copperfiled in a thumbtip would be even more impressive.

Doesn't the "best" trick translate to the thing that we are all searching for, the thing that doesn't exist... the "perfect" trick. Of course we magicians would love to be able to do real magic, I'm assuming that's why there are so many people looking for the "best" trick...
Is it fair to define the "best" trick as something that more closely resembles real magic than anything else? If so, in my opinion the answer would be "Flying" as performed by David Copperfield. Or did I totally miss the point? Are you asking what our favourite trick is? James |

The best trick in the world is the one that the spectator feels and believes they had a part in creating the magic - for real!

"Islandguy,
I wasn't attempting to be clever, I was pointing out how questions such as these are a waste of bandwith because the answers won't help other magicians, which is the purpose of this board. The words "in your opinion" make no difference. If a singer asked "What's the best song in your opinion?", do you think that answers to that question would help other singers, and if so, how? Answers that include a detailed "why," as I've suggested in many other threads such as this one, might help others, but they almost never do." Now, Larry...I'd disagree. Your presumption that it wouldnt help other people is a presumptiion on your part, and is an opinion. Personally, I love these type of questions, as I get a raft of names of great tricks/effects/illusions that I hadn't run across before. Searching these out gives me some nice new stuff to chase after. I think these questions DO help. Perhaps they just don't help you.

Tom, my intent was to help others, not myself as I'm happy with my repertoire. If these types posts help you, more power to you, enjoy the chase.
